While this lovely #fireworks show was going off the top the US Bank Tower in #dtla, hundreds of people were stuck waiting for the elevators on the 69th floor @skyspacela, trying to get downstairs after #sunset and before fireworks. When I saw the unbelievable line that didn't seem to be moving, I walked up to the 70th floor to see if there was as long a line there. There was no line at all. I stepped on an empty elevator with no operator. Instead of stopping to pick up people on the 69th floor, it automatically (there was no button to push) whisked me all alone down to the 54th floor where you transition to another elevator, which had just a short line of people who had taken the stairs down from 69 to 54. I managed to get out of the building just before they started stopping people from leaving, telling them the couldn't let people out until after the fireworks. The elevator issue was an opening night hiccup that I'm sure will be easily resolved, but put a damper on the evening for people who had already waited 2 hours in line to get to the sky slide and then were first stuck, then blocked from leaving the building until after the fireworks.
