I lost everything in my active addiction. Jobs, money, girlfriends, friends, family, but worst of all, my son. When I got sober, all I had was a few pairs of clothes and an oxygen tank, and I was flat broke.
I used to say this quote all the time in my early recovery because I had to cling on to the peace and serenity sobriety had given me. Although I didn’t have THINGS, I regained the power of choice. I was no longer a slave to the drugs or the alcohol.
Today I write this post as a man with over 5 years sober, and I’m about to go pick up my son for an awesome weekend.
