The Lao Hmong Guy.
This is what we call our Avery for those you don’t know. He’s a little half and half baby. So curious and full of life and LOVES food. Last night after a Lao ceremony we had some leftover beef larb (Asian beef salad with herbs and spices). I was finishing up a late dinner when Avery snatches my plate away and to my horror pops a piece of beef into his mouth. Traditionally this dish is spicy and highly seasoned, so luckily it was very mild this time. This boy’s eyes light up and he starts shoveling the remainder in his mouth with both little hands (green herbs and all) and all the sticky rice on the plate and then another 1.5 plates later. He ate with such joy and gusto like when one discovers ice cream for the first time. And the whole time I was worried it was too spicy - he ate it like nobody’s business and with a full belly of sticky rice and beef larb – he had a very sound night sleep.
Normally I would NEVER feed this to an one year old. But he enjoyed it so much and he’s so very Lao like Daddy that it is endearing yet hilarious at times. The things kids do.
