While at the ICU.
Wife is in DKA luckily we got there on time. Type 1 diabetes is unapologetic, it does not discriminate, nor does it show any mercy. One moment you can be having a great time, the next you wake up in the middle of the night and have to get rushed to the hospital.
Last night this happened to my wife. She ate something bad the day before. Everything was fine. She kept track of everything. Next day was doing better and at dinner time she couldn't eat. We had her eat some broth and water melon, kept her drinking water and diet ginger ale. Than at 9PM she started vomiting, nonstop. Her water, food, nothing stayed inside her. Than at 1AM she woke me as I was falling asleep and had me call her mom to rush her to the hospital. She collapsed at the front door of the ER. After getting saline and some insulin through IV is doing better but still with DKA problems. Now the tweaking begins. 3-5 days probably at the hospital.
A constant battle.
