#RDtip: That beautiful color payoff in the beet powder is actually due to antixodiants called betacyanins which can neutralize free radicals and prevent them from causing oxidative stress on the body. This kind of stress on the body can cause damage to key cellular structures such as DNA, cell membranes, or proteins. The maqui berry, on the other hand, is similar to acai berry in that it contains the antioxidant anthocyanin, which is what give both berries their beautiful color, along with vitamins A and C and various omega fatty acids. The antioxidants in both berries, like any other antixodant, can neutralize free radicals in the body as well as help combat tissue damage and strengthen the immune system.

1/4 cup softened coconut oil
1/3 cup organic coconut sugar
2-3 Tbsp almond butter (@wild_friends is great)
1-2 flax eggs (1 Tbsp flaxseed : 2 1/2 Tbsp water ratio)
1/4 tsp sea salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 1/3 cup almond flour
1/2 cup coconut flakes
dairy-free chocolate chips (i used @lilys_sweets_chocolate)
*bake at 350F for about 10 minutes or until golden brown

#RDtip: although bananas seem to be known for potassium, they are actually quite high in vitamin b6. Just 1 medium sized banana can provide up to 30% of your daily b6 needs! Vitamin b6 is involved in supporting a healthy nervous and immune system as well as helping break down starches and sugars. It’s also involved in helping prevent homocysteine buildup in the body (which is an amino acid associated with atherosclerosis and plaque buildup in the arteries). B6 and other b vitamin deficiencies are typically not common in the u.s but those at risk for it include smokers and alcohol users, individuals with end stage renal or other kidney diseases, individuals with malabsorption disorders like celiac or Crohns disease, and even those with inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.
