The first week of the year is always a tricky time for me. Over the last week (as I do at the beginning of every year) I have read so many positive posts about fresh starts and new beginnings, here is mine... 3 years ago today, I held this amazing little human as he closed his eyes, went to sleep and my life changed forever. One of the things I have learned from being Miles’ Mummy is that it’s ok to change the goalposts... that doesn’t mean you’ve failed... if you are still hoping, dreaming and fighting for more, then you are winning. Some days my goalposts are grand and impressive with lots of degrees and books and other exciting things... some days (like today) my goalposts are not so great, more like, ‘try to eat some breakfast Hannah’. This lesson, taught to me by an 8 month old little boy, is still the most important lesson that I have ever learned and it will be the most important lesson that I will ever pass on to his big brothers. Yes it’s great to make resolutions, to make promises to yourself and others... but you don’t have to wait until January 1st to do this, you can change your life at 11:21am on an ordinary Wednesday if you want to. As long as you are still hoping, dreaming and fighting for more (no matter how small ‘more’ is), then you are winning.
Here’s to my Smiles.
