Hey, what's in your lunchbox? 😊Do you dread packing lunch, or have you found some workarounds to make it more tolerable? My personal big breakthrough on packing lunches was when I started to approach it with a template in mind. Here's my template that brought more joy and less dread to packing lunch:

I start with ...
➡a huge base of veggies
➡add some protein, a little bit of nuts, cheese, or seeds, plus a slow carb like beans or fruit (or a combo of the two)
➡Sometimes I add in a bit more carb in the form of an intact whole grain (intact = not ground into a flour) or a starch like roasted sweet potato, squash, etc.
➡The final touch is a dressing (homemade or store-bought) that is made with good-for-you fats like EVOO or avocado oil. (Tip: Skip the dressings made with highly processed vegetable oils and other junk.) .

It's a flexible template that helps me auto-pilot my way through packing lunch. Really, who wants to waste any more time than necessary on planning lunch, am I right?? I change up the elements based on the seasons (i.e., I skew more to cooked veggies than raw in winter versus summer), and on my latest cravings. During the growing season, herbs from my garden make their way in there. Of course, leftovers influence what's in my lunchbox, too! .
Early in the week I try to batch cook these "moving parts", so during the week I can pack up a lunch in five minutes flat. The batch-cooked items also come in handy for my kids' lunches. Sometimes they pack their lunches similar to mine, or, they mix and match in their own way. #itsallgood 😊 . .

If you're working on getting leaner and/or improving your health, please know that the process does not have to include deprivation and hunger. In fact, any "diet" or meal plan that has you eating too little, or restricts you to a very narrow range of foods will, you guessed it, leave you feeling hungry and deprived. Though such a diet might give you an initial burst of weight loss and energy boost, ultimately, the deprivation will catch up with you, slowing your metabolism and stoking your cravings.

For most of us, when it comes to fat loss and/or improved health, the magic occurs when we nourish ourselves each mealtime with real, minimally refined foods, in a balance of protein, fats, and slow-digesting carbs. Amount matters, too - if you eat until you are no longer hungry (but not stuffed), you'll notice that you feel more filled and fueled between one meal and the next (and you won't need those 13 snacks and in between 😃). You'll probably discover that you're no longer obsessing over your next cheat meal!

While elimination diets can be a very useful tool in determining food sensitivities and allergies, they typically are not intended to be a way of eating for life. While we all vary slightly from one person to the next in food preferences and intolerances, #youdoyou is a very helpful mindset in figuring out what works best for you. For example, maybe your friend can't tolerate dairy, but you do fine with a bit of cheese or Greek yogurt here and there. Or, maybe you have a friend who swears by going ultra low carb, but, for you, low carb results in low energy, stalled fat loss, and raging cravings.

Bottom line? When it comes to determining *your* magic formula, eating real, minimally refined foods (protein, fat, and #slowcarbs), and eating to satiety are a great starting point. Fine tune from there to figure out what keeps your hunger, cravings, and energy levels in check.

I've learned that I thrive when I eat three *hearty*, real food (minimally refined) meals each day, plus a snack or two if needed. It has helped me lose fat, gain energy, and has eliminated cravings. No cheat meal necessary.👊💪

Berry Season is the Best Season 🍓
Hello Earthlings! Could I enjoy anything more after my morning workout than a bowl of #overnightoats with cinnamon and packed with berries? I don't think so. We haven't had #berries in a long time, one because they were out of season and two because they always come in plastic containers 😡
These were sold at the market for a bargain and we were weak despite the plastic pollution it meant and went for it. Back in Germany at least Strawberries come in wood containers or you can go to the field and pick your own (and then pay the farmer directly), which is fun and good for the environment, but over here? *sighs*
Anyway, I made overnight oats, a breakfast I adore in summer that is packed with #protein and nutrients and endlessly variable.
My basic #recipe consists of mashing up 1/2 a banana, then adding 1/3 cup non-dairy milk (whichever I've got in the house) and 1/2 cup of oats and mixing. Into that I'm mixing whatever I want, really, peanut butter, cocoa, chocolate, shredded coconut, jam, berries, cinnamon, other fruit, the options are endless... Leave in the fridge overnight for an easy, ready to eat breakfast.
Overnight oats are seriously good for you, and help you start your day with a #healthy portion of #veganprotein and #slowcarbs .
