Do you know your customer?
What you think or like may not be as appealing to your customers’ taste.
Consumers just don’t buy things out of a need but also wants to build a strong bonding to that product or service in order to satisfy their unspoken stimulation of the feeling, especially in a competitive market.
In simple language, say you are running a brand new cafe. You want to sell tons of espressos and cranberry/orange muffins and your common sense dictates, you must keep the space super clean with extra organized tables, chairs, magazines... and trained staff to clean the table as soon as customer sips the last drop of coffee.
Guess what? Unconsciously, you set your shop to only appeal a single customer base whose profile might be a super hygienic person at home. If you wish to sell to many, your shop should not have one type of aesthetics but rather welcoming, comfortable, homey and friendly enough to make all your customers feel good to be there. Remember, your customers walk in at every age, gender, size and with many complexities.
If I am a heavy built or male, or young, or any gender customer at your shop, I shouldn’t feel intimidated with perfect modern look, clean and organized cafe setting. For sure, my unspoken stimulation of behavior will unconsciously tell me that I do not belong here because you missed making me feel at home where my typical living room is always not perfectly organized with an old couch and a coffee table cluttered with magazines and an empty coffee mug all day.
