...... Sometimes movies just come along at the right time and for me it was 'SLEEPAWAY CAMP'. As a kid every Friday my parents would take me and my two best friends to Blockbuster and the first place we'd hit was the horror movie section. Browsing through the usual creep flicks, I ran across a film sporting a cover of a girl Rockin big 80s style hair, an oversized sweater and a backpack. Peeking out of the back pack was a hockey mask and a razor clawed glove. Intrigued immediately but it just wasn't meant to be. I ended up passing on the film, but for some reason, that cover always stuck with me, even if the film title didn't. Years later, I was now in highschool, (computer science or something idk)I was surfing Fangoria's site , when I came across an ad for an Anchor Bay release of SLEEPAWAY CAMP. That's when I saw the cover again. Nostalgia immediately took me over, after school I pre-ordered it and waited patiently. The camp, the low budget, the over acting and just plain bad acting was apparent and phuckin amazing. The characters resonated with me, Felissa Rose and Jonathan Tierston played their parts perfect and to this day, I'm still not entirely sure who exactly the killer was...I have a pretty good idea though, (especially with the HD rerelease, you can see clear as day, things that were supposed to stay hidden in the dark). If you get a chance check it out...
