Unfiltered, unfined, extended skin contact, orange wine, pét-nat, minimal intervention...these terms meant little to me just one year ago, and now they grab my attention. For many this style is undesirable, if not borderline offensive. To me it’s intriguing, curious, and fun. It also gives me an entirely different flavor profile to pair with food. Orange wines, especially sparkling, high acid, lightly tannic orange wines give Sommeliers a different set of characteristics to pair with food. I am happy to see these wines become more prevalent in the market, even if this one comes with the dreadful name “Hipster Juice”. Don’t be a hipster, just drink wine that interests you.
