1) What is your favorite thing about Iron Tribe?
I'm going to be original with this one and say the community. It's so great walking into a positive environment every morning of people cheering you on. Plus, I've got a great group of drinking buddies outside the gym now too.
2) One food you could eat for the rest of your life?
Popcorn. Plain, salted, butter...I don't discriminate. Confession: I once went to the movies by myself just to get a taste of that movie theatre popcorn. Don't come at me with that kettle corn s**t though.
3) Least Favorite Movement?Walking up my apartment or office stairs after a heavy leg day.
4) One activity on your bucket list and when you plan to check it off?
Oh gosh..probably travel to Iceland (I think as a millennial I am required to say this) or visit every brewery in Georgia. Right now, it looks like I'm closer to completing the latter... 5) 3 interesting facts about yourself?
- I was in a rock band in middle school called Hold the Butter. I played the drums. We had a CD. If you ask nicely, I can autograph one for you. - I played volleyball competitively all throughout high school. My club team made it to the Junior Olympics - where are those sponsorships at?!
- We’ll end on positive note here. I was a broadcast journalism major in college and one of my assignments was to cover a local murder trial. What did the jury decide? Tune in next week...

Too quickly our six week journey with @spartansgymkilsyth is done, but my personal fitness journey is not even close to over. For years I honestly thought my physical disability was what was stopping me from getting the body I wanted. This challenge taught me that the only thing in my way was that little voice in my head telling me that I couldn’t do it. There were days when I had to push myself to go to the gym because ‘people would stare and mock me’ or ‘the trainers would get frustrated because I was to slow or because they had to modify too many exercises’. But none of those things were true, the staff and other people at Spartans are some of the most supportive and friendly people I’ve ever met. Who knows where I’ll be in another six weeks?

🥕Don’t be scared of carbohydrates!🥕

The most important function of carbohydrates in the body is to provide energy. Did you know that carbohydrates are the preferred energy source for our nerve cells? And Carbohydrates are body’s key fuel source for when we exercise.•

Not all carbohydrates are bad!! (but not all carbohydrates are good for you either!)•

Carbohydrates can be found in starchy vegetables such as potatoes, peas and corn, as well as in legumes, beans, fruits and dairy. And most of us know that carbs are found in breads, cereals, rice, pasta etc. But carbohydrates are also found in chocolate, crackers, cookies, lollies/ candy, soft drinks etc. •
Generally speaking, the common denominator in carbohydrates is essentially sugar molecules. Glucose is the most important sugar molecule here as this is what the body uses to create energy. Some carbohydrates digest quickly, which increase our blood sugar levels quickly, which is what we would refer to as high GI (glycaemic index), and those carbohydrates that increase blood sugar levels more slowly are referred to as low GI.• Having more low GI carbohydrates in the diet can assist in weight control as they provide a feeling of fullness for longer, and can also help control the appetite. •
Carbohydrates will provide the body 4 calories per gram of energy for the body (or 17 kilojoules per gram).•

• How many carbs should we consume per day?• Depending on your weight, your goal weight, and your metabolic rate, will depend on how many carbohydrates you consume per day. Approx. 40-45% of your daily diet should be carbohydrates.•

TAKE A BREAK! Sometimes it’s actually good to give your body a rest. I’m a little watery from so much food but still happy my puppies are there!
I hit gym sessions 2-3 times a day! One being strength, one being conditioning and sometimes the 3rd being just abs if I didn’t hit in the first session.
I have had 3 rest days this week, eating everything in site, and my body has responded so well. I feel fully recovered and I’ve loaded up on carbs fats and protein (and chocolate and lollies!) I’m not saying to do this all the time, BUT, every once in a while...it’s good to just simply REST and refuel! I did my final weigh-in for a six week fitness boot camp with an outfit called @trainingforwarriors. I lost 20 pounds, 4.4% body fat, maintained even muscle mass and feel better both mentally and physically than I have in years.
So naturally I ate a pound of shrimp and sausage steamed in garlic butter as a much deserved reward.

Our most recent six week transformation! Joel and Elizabeth the amazing power couple! 💪🏼 After their sister Mikayla convinced them to do the challenge, they signed up at Crossfit Fracas.
