Kadian Pow is a Jamaican-American ex-pat conducting PhD research at Birmingham City University. Her interdisciplinary dissertation focuses on Black women and the Intersectionality TV discourse on social media. Mrs. Pow’s topics of interest include: Black women and desire in US TV; queer formations of Blackness; Black content creators on YouTube; the Intersectional politics of Black hair; and Tumblr as a media geography space, to name a few. Kadian’s forthcoming article, “Insider/Outsider: Olivia Pope and the Pursuit of Erotic Power” will be published in the critical volume, Gladiators in Suits: Race, Gender and the Politics of Representation in Scandal (Puff, Moffitt, Jackson II, eds), in 2018, through Syracuse University Press. Kadian Pow received her B.A. in Anthropology from Vassar College, and her M.A. in Languages and Cultures of Asia from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
In addition to her studies, Kadian is an Assistant Lecturer in Sociology at BCU, an Honorary Research Associate in the Digital Humanities at the University of Birmingham, and a member of Britain’s Black Studies Association.
