Sinister 7 2017 was another fun-filled adventure! The course changes and hot temperatures forced all of us runners to dig deep and battle some physical and mental demons. My team was out to get it... taking 3rd place mixed... amazing as a team of 5 runners! Congrats to all the others sharing the trails with us last weekend... especially all you soloists! Inspiring efforts all around #trailrunning #sinister7 #teamsweattshirtcontest #runfar #runfast

Its taken me about 10 days to turn my #sinister7 experience into words, and I sure used a lot of them! If you want to read about my experience as a 100 mile "sinner", you can follow the link in my profile. 2kms in. Feeling like 20. #sinister7 #crowsnestpass #saddlemountain

This is what your feet look like after climbing 852 meters and descending 1,024 meters on 17 kms of trails at #Sinister7 Did I mention that's it was over 30 degrees when I crossed the finish line? And I was only leg 2. Woe to legs 3, 4 and 5. #TrailRunning #LiveYourAdventure

Brand new singletrack on Leg 4 of #sinister7 . Brian and his trail fairies were hard at work today and the new trail is sweet! Make sure to look up and enjoy the views of Mt Tecumseh, Deadman Pass Peak and Crowsnest Mountain!

#sinister7 was a death march for some two weekends ago with temperatures reaching into the mid-30's. I can never get my head around how soloists complete that race in the best of conditions. Never mind in extreme heat. Any soloist who finished that race has determination that's second to none and obviously trained hard for it. I don't want to toot my horn but want to let people in on what worked for me in the heat. I had the sixth fastest time for Stage 3 but just went out easy as I hadn't done any long runs for awhile. My plan was to run an easy trail run and run all hills I could unless it was better to power hike. I ended up passing over 60 people in my stage and almost everyone was walking because of the heat. It felt warm to me, but not hot. I'd conditioned myself for heat back in the early 2000's during my Ironman days. I'd ride and run in the hottest parts of the day and did 90 minute hot yoga classes once a week. It was the #hotyoga that got me conditioned for the heat. I used to blow up in it. The past few years of trail running at least once a week made a huge difference as well. The strength for the hills and agility for technical trails is essential. Thanks to @stryde_ocr @fayestenning_ocr @johnnybefast @adamkuhn20 for all the great runs. Wish we all could have been together on that stage. My team "Something Wicked This Way Runs" rocked it placing 26th and about three times higher than we usually place. #spartantraining

Pictured above is @runningtherockies on her recent 100 mile debut. For her first, she decided to run all seven legs of the #sinister7, which most people run in teams as a relay. How incredible is that?!
