Ayam Masak Merah - Chicken in Red Gravy is a staple on every Hari Raya (Eid). It's not Eid for another 9 months but sometimes you need to indulge yourself 😉

The red gravy may make you think ""This will burn my tongue!" But it's just the pureed tomatoes. Of course, there are chillies but it's just enough to tingle! Eat it with Nasi Jagung (Buttered Rice with Corn), and life is almost complete! 😋😋❤❤😍😍 This dish is available on our catering menu 👍

The Pelican’s Weekend Champagne Brunch part 2. Do check out part 1. .
The brunch lasts from noon to 4pm with last orders at 3.30pm. And we made the best of it!
.
1 Striploin steak - juicy and with nice char. About 80g/4-5 slices per serving. Served with a nice jus. Very nice.
2 Beef cheek - soft, tender and gelatinous. The jelak factor was quite high but probably because we’d been eating for more than 2 hours by then.
3 BBQ sauce glazed fried chicken wings - one order equals one whole wing in two parts. Tasty but not the greatest especially if you like Korean style wings.
4 Lobster sliders and Grilled chilli cheese corn. Really generous delicious fresh lobster in a small brioche bun. Very nice and worth the carbs. We didn’t enjoy the corn that much. Basically fresh corn cut off the cob and mixed with herbs, chilli and topped with some cheese. Meh.
Onto dessert...
5 Burnt butter banana turned out to be a burnt butter ice cream with a banana cake. Soft moist cake and sweet buttery ice cream but what a misleading description. 🤣
6 Red velvet cake. Which came topped with coconut. Nope. Nope. Nope. Plus the cake was dry. Nope.
7 Ice cream. They ran out of triple chocolate so we got affogato ice cream (not to be confused with affogato which is vanilla ice cream with espresso coffee, this is coffee flavoured ice cream), which was quite mild and creamy, and apple crumble ice cream, which had way too much cinnamon and no apple or crumble in it. Ack.
Overall, good food and drinks, decent service, a lovely leisurely meal. Would definitely come back in maybe 3-6 months time when my bermudas fit again... Score: B+. .

The Pelican Weekend Champagne Brunch part 1. A made-to-order buffet with free flow soft drinks; you can upgrade to alcoholic drinks for a surcharge. Available on weekends only. They also have an a la carte menu available. The food came in small plates and it’s best to ask your server what’s in a single serving. We had:

1 Crab cakes - lots of crab, soft and falling apart, herbs, delicious.
2 Prawn cocktail salad - fresh but nothing special.
3 Squid salad - was actually made with generous amounts of octopus and new potatoes. Yummy. Maybe they ran out of squid?
4 Lobster bisque - good intense flavour, not too creamy. Good.
5 Snapper pie and onion rings - creamy fish pie with lots of pastry. Onions were soft and sweet but a little too oily.
6 Pan fried Barramundi and steamed broccolini. Fish was ok, could’ve been fried better. The veggies were sweet and served with garlic.
7 Prawn and oyster platter (one serving of 2 oysters, 3 prawns per person). Sweet, plump oysters that even passed my fussy standards. 😬 Fresh, perfectly cooked prawns with a lovely cocktail sauce. Yum.
8 Snapper and chips with Bleu cheese creamed spinach. Thin slices of fish with fat chips. Tasty but could’ve been more generous with the fish. The spinach wasn’t popular. Too much cream. .
We were surprised by how good the food was in general. Friendly staff but service was a little stretched at times. We had to order tea 4 times with 4 different servers before it finally showed up and some orders simply disappeared. Food also took awhile to show up from the kitchen, even simple items like the prawn cocktail salad. Still, we were pleased with the nice staff and good food. So far so good... This is my third visit to Curry Wok and I continued to be impressed with the dishes served here. One of their specialities Braised Pork Knuckle is
a recipe handed down through generations. The huge chunks of meat slow cooked in soy sauce is extremely flavourful and makes a perfect pairing for rice. Have it with the delicious spicy mackeral of the Otak Otak, the Sayuh Lodeh which is an assortment of vegetables in green curry and sambal kangkong for a complete, satisfying and priceworthy meal

I must admit that I am not a big fan of Mee Goreng. I have never been one as a kid and I have yet to find one that had made me change my mind. I am talking about the Indian style Mee Goreng. I am quite picky when it comes to Indian style Mee Goreng. I just don’t know why. I really want their Mee Goreng to be spicy, yes this one is. I want their Mee Goreng to be red, yes this one is. The meat is tender with vegetables on the other hand. The amount of noodle was wow. However, the Mee Goreng…I don’t know, I just think that something is missing but I don’t know what it is. Or should I say lack of flavour maybe? The price is not really reasonable (slightly expensive) as compared to typical hawker Mee Goreng. The Mee Goreng was okay but if only they add some ingredients to give it a kick then I’d say the price is reasonable. #thehalalhawkerfoodsg
