You know one thing that makes me happy?! Reading a book that challenges and inspires my thinking and way of living. .
Initially when I saw the book “The Tech-Wise Family” by Andy Crouch, I thought it would be my step by step instruction manual on raising my boys with so much media and technology at our finger tips. Instead, each chapter is teaching me what a well rounded family and personal life should look like. I’m about half way through the book and I have been challenged in what a family stands for. “We need people who know us and the complexities and difficulties of our lives really well - so well that we can’t hide the complexity and difficulty from them. And we need people who love us - who are unreservedly and unconditionally committed to us, our flourishing, and our growth no matter what we do, and who are so committed to us that they won’t let us stay the way we are.” (Andy Crouch)
So how do we set up a home leaving room for all of that to happen? I’m recognizing the importance of eliminating distractions in order to build relationships and conversation. I want my boys to bond, I want them to discover the awe of God, I want them to enjoy nature and I want them to talk to us about anything and everything. This parenting growing kids is harder then I thought. There are days I would go back to 3 boys 4 and under in a heart beat. The unknowns of the future, navigating through this technological world, and knowing when to talk about important subjects and how, is overwhelming. Thankfully God is asking us to just take one step at a time and when we simplify it is much easier to get God’s notifications, rather then all the other notifications the world is sending us. .
