Let me share a quick story: when Linkin Park was slowly coming into mainstream radio, I hated them. I simply couldn't wrap my mind around this so called nu metal genre that was emerging. One day while watching Mtv (go figure!) 'crawling' came on and I decided to give it a go. Instantly, I was over the 'look' of this band BUT the lyrics pulled me in. I felt like the lyrics were all too familiar at that moment in my life. I recall researching Chester's background, interviews, creative process to lyrically write such in depth songs. I quickly became a fan, solely bc of Chester B.
See, there are some life experiences that I can relate with Chester. So I dove in as a fan without question. Unfortunately, I didn't grow with the band - their direction wasn't a connection anymore.
Regardless, when at their peak I have the best memory ever! This was before technology/social media. I'd seen them a few times, this ONE show tho......I made my way to the stage! A few fans picked me up during 'in the end' at I got to hold hands with Mike and Chester while shouting lyrics. The moment is hard to describe, you had to just be there. Surreal.
When I heard about Chester's passing, my memories of that show flooded, and overloaded me with emotion. I actually have a memory, and it was AMAZING!
Mr. Bennington thank you for the memory, may you rest in peace.
P.s. Shake off the haters, only you knew the inner depths of your soul.
