Side of the Road: “The idea for the chorus of this song started on a trip I took with my sister. We were trekking along the Annapurna trail in Nepal, walking next to a river that went into a canyon surrounded on all sides by rocky cliffs. People had stacked rocks and pebbles all around the path in cairns. Our guide, Sanjib, told us that this is where people would leave memories and he handed us each a rock to put our own memories and intentions into. Then he told us to stack the memory somewhere for safe keeping, and that we would always know that it was there. I left a memory that was pretty heavy and that I had been carrying around for quite awhile on the side of the path that day.
Similarly, my Grandma Foley had a saying that "we all have our own bag of rocks to carry". In itself it’s a pretty dark saying, and it got me thinking a lot about what would happen if we could decide to stop carrying some of our "rocks". What would happen if we could let them go? How light would we feel? What could we do with our energy instead? Side of the Road is about all of these things. I was having trouble finishing up the verses and my friend @bradaustinparsons helped me by organizing some of these thoughts into the beautiful first verse of the song.” - Bevin Foley #troutsteakrevival#Spirit2theSea #troutsteak #songmeanings#lyrics #sideoftheroad http://smarturl.it/Spirit2theSea
