Here's a silly photo from last night for you. I'm staying with friends this weekend, but I have been awake for the last hour (it's 5:45am now). Why? Pain. And painkiller side effects.
... .. . .. . . .
This is the irritation, I just want a nice fun time with friends, but my pain is flaring up right now. I have bad womb cramps yet not on my period so my worries about endometriosis coming back are rising, and my back and hip are screaming at me as usual, then to top it off both my wrists and my hands have been flaring badly and now one of my shoulders has decided to join the party while my stomach feels bloated and had digestive type pain. .. ... . . .. .. . .. .
I had to take morphine last night for the pain. Once on the train here then later at night. The problem is that morphine gives me insomnia. I went to sleep around 1am or later and woke up at 4:30am unable to get back to sleep. I'm hoping I may get another hour in if I try but it feels unlikely.
... . . . . . ... .. . . ..
I wish I could book a holiday for pain. All I wanted was a nice couple of days to relax with friends but here I am awake and in pain, unable to take more painkillers til morning.
.... . .. . . . ..

The thing that surprised me most about the cancer treatments (surgeries and chemo) were the mood swings they triggered, especially the depression. Now everyone is different and responds differently to treatment. For me these symptoms were one of the hardest. For example I did not tolerate the steroids used along side chemo well. First they gave me extra energy which came with some positives (clearing out wardrobes and buying all the Christmas gifts at once!) although it messed with the sleep. I quickly learned to not plan anything early the morning after chemo as I was often up all night unable to fall asleep. But this was the easy bit. After a few days I would come crushing down into paralysing depression, unable to concentrate and feeling surrounded by darkness. It was intense and I was totally unprepared for it. The first two cycles were the worst. After that with my oncologist we managed to lower the dose of steroids substantially. So it got a little better although I never escaped it. I cried a lot. Out of 12 cycles there was one (nb 11) that I got through without tears. The good thing is that I slowly learned what I could do to help me feel better during those days (usually lasted 4-5 days). Puzzling and listening to music worked best. Go out for a walk every day and show up at choir practice no matter how I felt. And connect to other people, I was lucky to have a friend that had recently gone through chemo and knew what it entailed. I had similar experience after my surgeries and that's why I got this book out of the book shelf recently. Brilliant book about how mindfulness can help with depression. Feeling much better now, both physically and mentally after my recent surgery. Mentioning this as no one had warned me about these symptoms before starting chemo. I heard a long list of all kinds of physical symptoms, some appeared but most of them didn't, but I was never told about the side effects impacting mental wellbeing, despite them being well known. And it's 2017. I hope this bias will change soon. #cancertreatments #sideeffects #mentalhealthawareness #helpfulbooks #mindfulness #copingwithchemo #copingwithcancer

Allergies blow...but you don't have to.
Allergies. Hacking. Coughing. Sneezing.
Sometimes it happens when we travel, and sometimes you move to an area where this is your DAILY or seasonal reality. Never fun.
How to handle this naturally:
I love 2 drops each of 🍋Lemon, 🍃Lavender 🍃Peppermint
in a capsule daily and there are no side effects. And I am supporting liver and kidney health and daily cleansing of chemical junk we can't always avoid with the Lemon essential oil. Works for me everytime. 💁MOM HACK: For kiddos, put the three oils in a roller bottle, fill up 1/4 of the roller with the essential oils in equal parts and other half with fractionated coconut oil. Roll on spine twice daily and to chest as needed. 😀Daily Seasonal Support and their liver and kidneys are getting a healthy boost.
