Friday thoughts... if you want to hear me geek out on anatomy continue reading, otherwise here is my back and bum in front of some lush wall paper 🌴
Let’s talk posterior. Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean you should ignore it 🍑
The posterior chain is every muscle in the back plane of the body from your neck to your Achilles heel. The posterior chain supports you in every way and even if one section of it is weak, it’ll have a major knock on effect to everywhere else.
Don’t get put off exercises that highlight to you that you have tight hamstrings. All the more reason to work them. Skip them and you can say hello to weak glutes and a fragile lumbar spine and that’s 💩
In a yoga perspective, you need to build the muscles in your legs and bum to safely land in any form of backbend.
My god, if I had a penny for every picture I see on here of hyper extension in the lower back that gets praise because there’s a sunset or a dolphin flying through a rainbow over them and because it makes them look skinny, I’d never have to work again 🌈🐬#instayoga 🙄 (we’re all guilty of it from time to time which is totally cool but don’t be fooled by the lack of form!)
If you insist on doing crazy backbends with zero engagement in your legs then be prepared for the old version of yourself to be thoroughly pissed. 🙏 Strength before length as my dear teacher @siannasherman says and I’m with her everyday of the week. Build strength and then you’ll be able to spread your whole self further and for longer. It doesn’t happen over night. But it will eventually happen.
