John Legend is well known by his musical talents and is the recipient of ten Grammys, an Oscar, and a Golden Globe. He also won an Academy Award for his song “Glory” in the movie Selma.
Legend Show Me Campaign in 2007, which seeks to give every child access to quality education by partnering with nonprofits that support and lift up educators. The Show Me Campaign’s mission is the break the cycle of poverty and works to end the school-to-prison pipeline and to address systemic issues in our criminal justice system that disproportionately impact the poor, minorities and disadvantaged. Together, these dual strategies aim to give every single child the opportunity to not just survive, but to thrive.
Legend also started #FREEAMERICA; a multi-year campaign to change the national conversation on our country’s misguided policies and transform America’s criminal justice system. In 2015, Legend lead a nationwide listening and learning tour, visiting with people who are incarcerated, law enforcement, legislators, and experts who have been thinking critically about America’s prison problem.
