Long weekend canoe camping just on the other side of a wildlife reserve.🌲Nice to get out of the city and experience a slower pace. Water was so calm and misty, we just drifted past birds chirping around us. We also picked up a block of styrofoam from the stream. Who else picks up litter on their hikes and outdoor activities? 🙋🏻‍♀️

As the story goes, Douglas Coupland found a plastic bottle he used to collect while in Japan and had a revelation of just how deeply connected the world is by the waste we throw into the ocean; both intentionally and not. Vortex at the Vancouver Aquarium is Coupland’s representation of the Pacific Trash Vortex and an exploration of the relationship of our plastics and the ocean. Fun fact, all the plastic garages on display were collected along the BC coastline with a large amount collected by the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.

Hey @thecoastalcentre I'm loving the cigarette receptacles! Not so much loving the tires but we managed to get 35lb of trash along the shoreline. Then went for a dip because why not. #shorelinecleanup #bayfield #lakehuron #3celciuswater #trashysundays #letscleanbeaches

Save the mangrooves... Did you know that mangrooves act as a natural barrier against storm surge and tidal waves. Aside from this sea creatures from all shape and sizes use its roots as feeding grounds and a home.

Our hometown of Vancouver, Canada just banned single-use plastic straws! What a victory. This weekend, challenge yourself to do the #5minBeachCleanup and see how many straws you can find, and then challenge your local representatives to make a change. We left the place a lot cleaner than we found it too. 🙄
