"Do it for yourself." Seems so simple right?
Sometimes I struggle with this because I feel like my whole life I was told not to be selfish.
Not really understanding that you can be both selfish AND selfless.
Until today I was thinking about why I started this IG in the first place.
Yes, I love sharing my workouts with you
And hearing that I've inspired you live a better lifestyle.
Honestly few things make me happier than the amazing messages I receive daily.

But do you know what feels even better than approval from others?
Approval from yourself
I do this for my well being
I do this to strengthen my body and my heart
I do this because it makes me happy
I DON'T do this for praise
I DON'T do this for attention
I DON'T do this for the number of followers

"If you put your validation in other people's hands, you will have to keep going back to them for it"

It's okay to be selfish
It's okay to put yourself first
Because at the end of the day,
Approval from others
Or a million followers
Or thousands of likes
Is only going to give you the illusion of fulfillment.

What matters is on the inside
THAT is why I have this account
To remind myself where I used to be

I can get so caught in things sometimes that I forget to see the bigger picture. This is something I have been actively working on and I can honestly say I've grown tremendously in this area of my life. For me, this transition has included things as small as not freaking out when I leave my overnight/makeup bag at home (this happened last weekend lol) to much bigger things like realizing that God places people in my life for a reason, and he takes people out of my life for a reason as well. And there's only so much I can control. I have become a less-stressed person because of this transition. I sleep better. I feel more at peace with my life in general. But I am still working on this and it has not been easy

If you feel like this is something you need to work on, join the party. Here's a few things I can tell you:
1.) Practice. Yes practice. practice talking yourself through situations like you would tell a friend (it's easy to be practical when it's not YOUR situation... amiright?) Tell yourself- well you have two options. Either go buy a toothbrush and borrow your roommates foundation for a few days, or drive back home and get your makeup bag. Simple. And don't let it be more than that. This is not a real issue.
2.) Find a good book to read for more complex topics. I've been reading a devotional called "Becoming the woman I want to be" and it's been eye opening as to what I really want out of life. Do your research and find a book, audiotape, something to help guide you.
3.) Find someONE to help guide you, too. Everyone needs accountability sometimes. And it can be as simple as texting a friend- hey I'm working on this and I need your help making sure I stay on track.
4.) Keep working at it even when you don't want to (like everything else in life, right?) Motivation is fleeting. Dedicate yourself.

I haven’t rly been posting much but dammit I’ve been working. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Doing some goal setting. Some current ones: by the end of the year I want to be deadlifting AT LEAST 200lbs (I laid off weight to really focus on proper form. I’m currently hitting 175 for 5x5) and to be able to do AT LEAST 2 unassisted pull-ups, currently I can kind of get my chin over the bar when I rly rly jump into it :,-). Stay tuned & hell share some of your ~fitnessy~ goals below 💪🏼

#UnguardedAndUnbothered - reality ⬇️⬇️
The past 6 weeks have been SOSOSO taxing on me.. I have been working 30+ hours each week personal training/teaching group fitness classes/other duties, managing my online clients and #DBFTChallenge group, staying involved in @officialpowerbuffgirls, on top of another side hustle I have picked up AND STILL HAVING TO GET MY LIFTS IN/BE HUMAN/SUPPORT BAE IN FOOTBALL/AND BE A GOOD DOG MOM!!! SOS. 😓☠️
Since I have been traveling every single weekend it's been really hard to get in a good head space to relax when I feel like I don't have time to. My lifts have been sporadic, I have a hard time tracking on the weekends diligently because I am gone all the time, and it's caused me to get down on myself.
However, I have been praying for some anxiety to be taken off, and God has definitely been listening to me. I may have a lot of crap on my plate, but I am managing it all, and slowly learning how to take it day by day instead of worry so much about the future.
Moral of the story: Sometimes you have to grind with your head down in order to pave a better future for yourself.
Right now, I have to work my butt off so in a few years, I don't have to.
With that said, HAPPY MONDAY - do something amazing today to make tomorrow even better. 💪🏽💕

My workout this morning definitely didn't start out great after two guys literally stole the squat platform I clearly had my stuff on 😾( was actually verrry annoyed by this) basically had to switch up my workout and wait until a lot later to use it 😒 buttt I will say for some reason I had an awesome workout regardless 🙌🏻 usually I let little things like that affect me too much, but today I said whatever and made it work! Slowly learning to "go with the flow" (lol kinda)

Dear Diary 7 | (continued from yesterday...) It wasn't until recently that I started squatting again and I realized: Idc if I don't fit the mold!! Sure, placing in shows is great and I would be lying if I said I didn't prep with the intention to do well and win BUT I don't want to sacrifice pieces of myself in order to reach my goals. Ever since I re-started squatting and gaining my strength back (previously I could squat 225 but now I'm struggling with 150), my self image has been positively impacted and I have once again started to love the legs I have grown. Rn, I'm thankful to be able to focus on my personal strengths. I'm thankful that my legs can take me all over campus and walk 12,000+ steps a day. I want to grow a strong mind so that when my body has to be judged again, I won't let the criticism change who I am and I won't let it change how I love myself ❤️ {Day 4/21}

Adam was formed from the ground around him. However what brought life to Adam was the breath of the living God. It wasn't the dirt that made Adam alive, it was God's breath sustaining him and moving through him.
Our lives may have been shaped externally by our career, our marriage, our children, or even or goals....but none of these are able to truly sustain us. Yet these are the things which we are desperately trying to draw our next breath from. We begin to see our carbon comforts as our everything and life source. And when it all crumbles our heart suffocates in a vacuum of disappointment and regret.
Our life sustaining breath, the one thing that keeps us going when all else fails, only comes from God.
It isn't the ground around us or the dirt that molded us....it is God.

"You don't inspire others by being perfect.
You inspire them by how you deal with your imperfections." Am I perfect? No.
Do I make mistakes? Yes.
Do I let these things stop me? Hell no.
I get up. I start a new day. I set my goals. I chase them.
And I'm not going to stop until I reach them.
But, throughout this journey I hope to inspire others. Even if it is just one person.
In and out of the gym.
Mistakes happen. Falling off track happens (i.e. The last three weeks for me). But choosing to get back up, fighting for yourself, moving closer to your goals. That's what makes the difference.
Realize that there is a time for (accidentally) falling off track, or taking a much needed break. But there is a time when you need to get your shit together and start killing it again.
So if you need it, take a break. Breaks are necessary and healthy. But. Don't let that "break" turn into never looking back.
This is why I chose to Post about my fitness journey, to show you that these things happen. I know I'm not perfect. Life gets in the way. Change happens. But I will always pull myself back together eventually.
And remind myself;
you are worth it.
Fight for yourself.
Kill your goals.
Slay the day. -

First dinner of senior year WOOT!! 🎉 {chicken, corn, black beans, yumm sauce, salsa, jalapeños, lettuce}

Today was my second booty day of the week, it was so so. I don't really have a schedule after I get off so whenever we make it to the gym is when we (me and my boyfriend) make it and sometimes that's very frustrating but thats life🤷🏻‍♀️ -----> slide for today's booty werk🤗

u know those people who "forget to eat"? who get stressed and suddenly have no appetite? yeah that's literally the opposite of me lol I feel the need to eat the world when I'm stressed. This is something I'm tryna improve BUT on the plus side it gives me more cals to utilize during workouts which makes for a great sweat and pump 😅

career fair week is winding down tho so imma get back in my routine of not eating free pizza and cookies at corporate events every day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I need some green foods back in my life I miss them

Picture 1 was taken Memorial Day Weekend. Picture 2 was my school picture taken a couple of weeks ago (#teacherlife 🤓). -I've worked for this transformation. Nothing has been handed to me. I don't have great genetics or a super fast metabolism. I don't have someone telling me to get to the gym or focus on my nutrition. This is MY life. MY body. MY responsibility. I've worked for this and I will continue to work for this. No one sees the behind the scenes stuff. Every early morning I didn't want to get out of bed, every night setting that 3:45am alarm clock, every time I said I'm tired of tracking macros, every time I've thought about how far I still have to go....I look at pictures like these and think damn I did this. No one did this for me. I freaking did this. Proud is an understatement. -If you're reading this and making excuses of why you can't exercise or focus on your nutrition, this is your sign to change. Stop making excuses and put in the time. I promise you'll be so happy you did.
