I'll be honest with you. Today was rough. I had no motivation to workout 😞 I just wanted to stay in and cuddle up on the sofa and binge on Friday Night Lights (I know I'm a decade late to the party but how amazing is that show?!) The Viking and I are OBSESSED. I love it because #timriggins and Bae loves it because #football so we're both happy πŸ˜‚ Plus my neck is still sore and I had a acupuncture last night so my whole left side feels a bit tender and weak. But I'm carb cycling today to maximise on my strength now that I'm not in comp prep and I really want to gain some more weight, which means I might have a cheeky @lionellocookies πŸͺπŸ˜πŸ™Š... or 2!

If I'm carb cycling I also do a depletion workout before hand. So I train hard, hitting major muscle groups to deplete my glycogen stores. My body responds super well to this method and I wake up the next day with full muscles and oodles of energy!

It's all about mind muscle connection! You don't need to do crazy heavy lifts every time. I find that having a mixture of light weight high reps with my heavy compound moves really keeps my glutes guessing! So think about those buns during every rep, don't just mindlessly go through the motions! This workout should burn like all hell 😱πŸ”₯πŸ‘πŸ˜±πŸ”₯πŸ‘

Here's the magic formula: Find your WHY and do what FEELS GOOD... so if you don't like cardio, don't do it. Find a way to move your body that you actually enjoy. My back used to be my weakness. I used to feel so awkward doing back exercises, especially one arm rows. My little baby muscles just didn't know what the hell was going on! πŸ˜‚ I basically used to just go through the motion of the exercise with zero body awareness and be like, "um ok, am I supposed to feel something back there?!" πŸ€”πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚

It wasn't until I started doing banded chin ups and really trying to focus on specific back muscles during every rep that I started to see progress. One day it just 'clicked' and man, did it feel amazing!

I love feeling strong and discovering muscles that I didn't know I had. Who can relate?? πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

I have never had so much energy, felt such incredible clarity or found it so eeeeasssyyy to stay in shape all year round. Keto elevated my health to a level beyond what I thought possible. Truly, once you go keto, you NEVER go back! But the hardest part (and the thing that deters most people) is adapting.

There is so much BS out there about this AMAZING lifestyle annnd a lot of haters... I get it. It's not the norm, right? But just because something isn't considered normal or mainstream, doesn't make it wrong.

Left pic: 23 years old, 40kg, on holiday, elephant trekking in Thailand! I had a blast on that trip but I remember how weak I was and how tired I got doing really simple things. I mean, look at those noodle arms!! πŸ˜‚

Right pic: 33 years old, 53kg, on stage at @wbff_aust GC2017 show just over 3 weeks ago! Yes, I changed my body, I built some curves and strength. But the real change here is my MIND.

Living a healthy lifestyle and lifting weights has changed my life! I am no longer a shy, insecure and lost girl who has no drive or direction in life. I now have purpose, I am confident and dare to reach for my dreams. And it spills over into every area of my life! My relationships are healthier, my work life improved and I can deal with problems when they arise (where before, the 23 year old me would just emotionally check-out and run away!) The fact that I'm in the best shape of my life is just the icing on cake 😜🍰 .

Because remember, the body of your dreams is merely a byproduct of how GOOD YOU FEEL πŸ™πŸΌso focus your energy on being healthy and the rest will just fall into place effortlessly. How awesome is that?! πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

There is a fine art to posing and that's why I love the stage! You can see from this time lapse that I wasn't always graceful and confident πŸ˜‚ I mean, what is up with those flicky hands and pointy fingers (bikini girls, who can relate?!) 😳

June 2015 - when I first entertained the thought of actually competing for the first time. No coach, no guidance. Just my feeble attempt at copying other competitors that I'd watched at shows and online.
.
Aug 2015 - when I actually committed to competing by joining a federation and had one 1hr posing lesson with a bikini pro who gave me a nudge in the right direction.
.
Feb 2016 - when I was a month out from my first ever comp and had been working with a posing coach for the previous 3 months.
.
March 2016 - my first state show where I placed first in bikini short (I still cringe at those jelly arms though πŸ™ˆ)
.
April 2017 - when I started working with a posing coach again in preparation for my next show.
.
May 2017 - the night before competing in my last show with the @wbff_aust πŸ’πŸ»What a diva!!
.
.
This just goes to show that we all start somewhere! If you are thinking about competing, don't just wing it with your stage presence. I wouldn't have improved as much as I have or won shows, if it wasn't for all those hours of practice.
.
.
And even if you aren't thinking of competing, posing builds confidence, it gives you a far better awareness of your body and muscles... and is quite a workout in itself! Oh, and its hella fun to unleash your inner goddess 😜

I wore a fixed brace and retainer for over 5 years but my teeth were still crooked after all that. I hated how my face scrunched up when I laughed. I was so insecure that I never smiled in photos. And let me tell you, I PERFECTED the resting b*tch face to a T πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ As a teen I was a skinny, shy geek with frizzy hair and questionable fashion sense. I used to get called names like, bugs bunny, witch, banana face and gappy tooth πŸ˜” Jeez kids are mean!!

I've had 5 corrective surgeries on my mouth, gums and teeth over the last 20 years. I've had over 30 stitches in my mouth and I've spent countless months eating baby food through a straw. But now I can happily say that I love my smile, even if my face still scrunches up when I laugh.

All that sh*t that I went through was horrible at the time but it taught me to be compassionate and strong, to always be kind to others and to realise that how you look does not determine your worth!

Why am I even writing this?! I don't really know, I'm rambling. But the next time you hate on yourself or any part of your body, just remember, a diamond is just a lump of coal that did well under pressure πŸ˜‰ You are so much more than your body. You are so much more than this bag of flesh and bones that you walk around in. You are the universe looking back at itself. You are awesome, you are capable of amazing things and you are perfect just the way you are πŸ’ŽπŸ’«

#tbt to exactly a year ago! Wow how time flies. Can I just say... holy mother of glutes!! πŸ˜±πŸ‘πŸ™πŸΌ I remember I was strong af here. Thick, fit, bootylicious AND hitting PBs left right and centre πŸ’ͺ🏼 THIS IS HEALTH RIGHT HERE LADIES! I had a little belly pouch, my cellulite may have made a little comeback, jiggly bits galore but goddam I FELT SO GOOD... and that's really all that matters πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

#tbπŸ”™ to a stronger and curvier body 2 months before I competed. This is where I feel best because #food πŸ˜‚
I had a serious booty going on, I had jiggly bits, my waist was thicker and did I mention the booty?? πŸ™ŠπŸ‘πŸ™ŒπŸΌ True health comes in all shapes and sizes, ladies... jiggly bits and all!

And p.s what the heck am I doing here?? Is that CARDIO?! I must have a fever or something. Jokes. I've been adding sled runs and box jumps onto the end of my leg workouts, you know, just to completely annihilate myself πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Try it out and let me know how you go!

It's normal to feel lost after such an intense all-consuming goal and now that it's all over, I'm rethinking my next move.β €

I'm sure there will be other goals in the future for me, but for now, I'm happy just doing my thing... which obviously is eating lots of food and lifting heavy things.β €

My training will change to 4-5 days a week instead of 6-7 and I'll be starting a new strength program. Hello deadlifts, my old friend πŸ˜‚ I love training for performance and I can't wait to put some weight on and see how strong I can get.β €
