Quick Thoughts (D.E.A.R.): issues 9-15 of Nightwing (current series). Cover by: Marcus To, Chris Sotomayor. [ spoilers ahead ]. Dick Grayson goes to Blüdhaven for a fresh start, to clear his head, after the craziness regarding Raptor and The Parliament of Owls. And he wants to contribute, give a helping hand as himself, not as Nightwing. The former villains in this arc are not so dangerous and silly.. yeah, it's easy to say that, and that this is a different arc compared to what's happened previously. However there is an "awareness" about these C(?) listers and there is heart to this story; the characters genuinely want to do good. There wasn't much of an element of "Oh no!! One of them isn't trustworthy!", or "It's a scheme to get Nightwing!", which is to be expected when a crime fighter meets a reformed baddie. I was honestly rooting for these characters to stay on the good side of things; and also for Shawn/Defacer and Nightwing to trust each other. .
There's a good sense of history in the arc, such as flashbacks and the friendship between former villains. I didn't feel lost or confused about the characters, especially since I haven't read Nightwing's pre-New 52 solo series. It's all well explained, laid out. Near the end I feel that the story loses a bit of steam when it's revealed that James is the one that framed Grimm and the other former villains. That part of the story could've used a bit more of Wow!! factor, or maybe have the reveal a bit earlier in the story. Overall: good arc. It pressed a few of my Awww buttons 😭😔. I'm rooting for Shawn + Nightwing as he faced some considerable challenges and questions in a new setting #Comicsgram #Blüdhaven #TimSeeley #ChrisSotomayor #MarcusTo #ShawnTsang #IvanReis #Bludhaven #SulaMoon #OclairAlbert #DCComicsRebirth #CarlosMMangual #MinkyuJung #MarkDoyle #Defacer #CarlosMangual
