CUNY York College held its annual Women’s History Conference sponsored by the women’s center in the Faculty Dining Room featuring keynote speaker Public Advocate of New York City, Letitia James. James is the first woman of color to serve a city-wide office position. She and several other panelists talked about feminist social activism and why it’s important to get involved in the community to promote change. York's Women's Center manager Eboni Jackson introduced the other panelists to share their insights with students. Panelists included activist and author of Grassroots: A Field Guide for Feminist Activism, Jennifer Baumgardner, York College psychology professor Sharmayne Jenkins, CEO and President of the City of New York YMCA Dr. Danielle Moss-Lee and Queens Library Chief of Staff Gitte Peng. James explained the importance of getting involves with political affairs to make changes to the community. In her conversation she told York with Mayor DeBlasio she says, “The issues involving women aren’t temporary. We got to make the permanent in our lives.
