Via @sharkgirlmadison The oceanic white tip, a personal favorite of mine, a pure symbol of fear thats gone down in history as an open ocean predator like no other. Responsible for more human deaths than any other sharks. Oceanic whitetips can be very aggressive and unpredictable in the presence of potential prey. Yet we can also have amazing interactions with them... but humans do not return the favor. These sharks are sold commercially for human consumption; hides for leather, fins for shark fin soup, liver oil for vitamins, and processed into fishmeal (to feed the livestock we eat). They have now declined by up to 97% in some areas of the ocean.
What you should be scared of is not this shark, but the fact that the footage I've seen of them depicts them in sizes and numbers I will never see. My generation will need to be contempt with the remnants of the last true wild animals, and the overfishing that has taken them from us. Photo by @perrinjames1
