2 weeks left until we get to do our most favorite thing! Every couple of years we are blessed to island hop to Oahu to share sacred space with these indescribably awe-striking animals- and the amazing team at @oneoceandiving who make these interactions possible, changing the way the world sees sharks one perception at a time. My first trip out with them, I was so excited I could barely contain myself! I was going to swim with sharks for the first time!! Childhood fear had turned to fascination that was finally turning into reality. I could hardly handle the all the electric emotions coursing through my body. And it was GLORIOUS. I even met the beautiful Roxy. There are no words to describe sharing the ocean with a tiger. Humbling, breath taking, and reverent come close though. The second time I was able to keep my emotions a little more in check, but I was still bouncing up and down on the boat like a giddy child as we readied to go in. No tigers that time, but soooooo many sandbars and Galapagos swirling around beneath my fins, some coming up in the water column, gently passing by with calm curiosity. To be surrounded by so many sharks made me feel like part of the shiver, and I never wanted to leave their waters. This time, I’m already feeling those excited jitters as I imagine the scene: stepping onto the Pono Kai, gearing up, and slipping into their world, but I remind myself that my goal for this trip is not to go on an exciting adventure full of positively charged emotion. Rather, I hope instead to tune into their blessed calmness, and show my love and respect to these crucial, beautiful, and misunderstood animals. I want to soak up their grace and beauty, look into their intelligent eyes, and communicate my love and gratitude for everything they are. I’ll let you know if I succeed, or if I act like a sugar filled child again this time haha. Either way, August 27 can’t come soon enough. . .
