Love this. The next generation will save sharks, we can only hope there will be some left to save.

Its so sad because they are such gentle and intelligent beings who are absolutely harmless to humans, they don't have any barbs or stingers or any defense mechanism at all. "Your Not So Ordinary Bubble Bath"
-
Many veteran divers at Archipelago de Revillagigedo will attest to the fact that Oceanic Manta Rays (M.birostris) welcome the bubbles coming from scubadivers. Why? 1. It seems to soothe them and 2. It displaces the sometimes or more often annoying remora sucker fish that latch on to them. 😂

Interesting factoid; most of earths oxygen is derived from our oceans. If we don't do something to help stop/ban shark finning, they WILL be wiped out. If they are wiped out, their prey is left to decimate their own food supply which directly affects the phytoplankton. In a nutshell no sharks=unbalanced ecosystem=70% less oxygen for us. #stopsharkfinning #sharkconservation #sos #saveoursharks #saveouroceans #ilovesharks #tigershark #bullshark #greatwhiteshark #conservation #atlantic #maritimes #marinelife #phytoplankton #algae #extinction #sharkfinsoup #cull

"Donsol, Sorsogon"

A little something from The Philippine Islands, filmed on location in the quiet town of Donsol in Sorsogon Province with Freediver, Yana Torres @yanatorres_ courtesy of Seazoned Philippines @seazonedph Co-Founder, Underwater Photographer and Videographer, Nico Soriano @nicosorianoph - This video sums up what went down during my Donsol trip with @yanatorres_ ! We had a 12-hour bus ride, stayed at a nice resort, encountered 4 full grown whale sharks, went to Manta Bowl but current was too strong, encountered wide array of soft corals, flight home got overbooked but we chose to give way, went on a short layover and a free overnight stay in Cebu, and got compensated with free roundtrip tickets to Siargao! Our overall trip was really one for the books! 🎶TRINIX - No Sleep 🎥📷Shot with Sony A6300, GoPro Hero4 SE and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

🔵Swimming with whale sharks, locally known as butanding, was featured as the Best Animal Encounter in Asia by Time magazine in 2004. Whale sharks can be seen between November and June, with presence peaking between February and May.

The presence of whale sharks in the town of Donsol was known to the local residents over 100 years. But the locals believed these gentle giants were dangerous. This wrong notion changed when in December 26, 1997, a group of scuba divers led by Romir Aglugub – a PADI diving instructor, discovered its presence, and interacted with the whale sharks. Even the members of the diving group of Romir was having second thoughts if the fish was docile, until the instructor led the way into the water and came in contact with the whale shark.

To date, my friends at the Large Marine Vertebrate Research Institute of The Philippines @lamaveproject led by Executive Director, Sally Snow @sallyjsnow have research stations situated in Donsol, Apo Island and Leyte.

Sometimes you get tricked into getting a tuk tuk to Chinatown to buy some shark fin soup. #coletraintravels #thailand #travel #bangkok #chinatown #sharkfinsoup #crafty #couldntbuyit #expensive

The practices behind the infamous shark fin soup is brutal and completely unsustainable. Don’t support this trade by trying shark fin soup when traveling, although it might sound exotic. There are plenty of other exciting things to tickle your palette!🦈 instead, try scuba diving and see live sharks! You will be waaay more impressed ✌️

Each year approximately 100 million sharks are killed for their fins to accommodate to the high demand for shark fin soup. This number neglects to account for the number of sharks also caught recreationally/ trophy hunted, or that have fallen victim to shark nets and commercial bycatch. Sharks play such a significant ecological role within the marine ecosystem and are imperative to an oceans survival. These beautiful creatures are rapidly disappearing before our eyes and things need to change. We need to be their voice and stand up for sharks before it’s too late. Become a shark advocate and i 100% recommend becoming an ambassador for a shark loving organisation such as @respect_the_fin and @watersoulfoundation. These two incredible organisations raise awareness of the importance of sharks and the proceeds raised through their online stores go towards shark research facilities and education programs! ❤️🦈Reppin my @respect_the_fin ambassador shirt 😎🤙.

Hey #Melbourne, how about NO? #sharkfinsoup #savetheshark 🦈

Fins belong on sharks. Around 100 million sharks are killed every year around the world, we need to do something while we can. 🦈🌊 #ocean #bansharkfinning #savethesharks #sharkfinsoup

#Repost @theintelligencebrief ・・・ QUITO-#tibminibrief by @vidasilvestreecu Illegal fishing is toxic to sea life. Many species find themselves affected not least the shark. In 2013, 100 million sharks were killed primarily for their fins. Shark fins are a highly sought out commodity, for culinary and cultural reasons, in the Asian markets ( especially the Chinese market) and increasing demand for fins continues to drive the hunt. In many instances, fishermen catch sharks cut their fins and dump the bodies into the oceans to avoid government regulations. The importance of the shark to marine ecosystems cannot be understated. Sharks are a migratory species that live in many oceans as super-predators: they are in charge of maintaining equilibrium in marine ecosystems. A healthy Shark population is primordial to keep our oceans healthy, diverse and rich in species. #illegalfishing #shark #sharkfinsoup #sharkfins #china #asia #environmentalscience #nationalgeographic #wwf #epa

🔵The southern stingray (Dasyatis americana) is a whiptail stingray found in tropical and subtropical waters of the Western Atlantic Ocean from New Jersey to southern Brazil. It has a flat, diamond-shaped disc, with a mud brown, olive, and grey dorsal surface and white underbelly (ventral surface). The barb on its tail is serrated and covered in a venomous mucous, used for self-defense.

In many parts of the Caribbean such as Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands and Antigua, the southern stingray swims with divers and snorkelers, and are hand fed on a locations such as Stingray City and the Sandbar. On Turks & Caicos, they can be hand fed at a location called Gibbs Cay. Some have become tame enough to be cradled in visitors' arms and feed with pieces of cut up fish. This docile and food-reward driven behaviour has led to many locals comparing the hand-fed and belly-rubbed stingray to an over fed household canine. There are concerns that this feeding, and the high levels of interaction with humans, may be having some negative impacts on the behaviour and ecology of the stingrays.
