Six days a week thousands of tourist show up here to see and swim with dozens of hand fed whale sharks. These whale sharks, the largest fish in the sea swim through and around the hoards of people hoping for a morsel of krill. The feeding stops at noon and the whale sharks disappear to the depths. There is great debate and controversy about the effects of hand feeding these large sharks. Some scientist are concerned that this activity congregates the sharks making them vulnerable and potentially interrupts their natural feeding and migration patterns. Others argue that the sharks act as ocean. ambassadors teaching visitors about the sea and that the economy generated around these sharks makes them extremely valuable and protects them from harm.
