This cosplay gave me the chance to learn a new skill, prosthetic making! I never made one before but I had a blast and definitely want to do it again in the future!
So this was a long process. It took me weeks with all the drying times and having the time for the long processes. So the first part was definitely the most stressful. I had to get my entire face covered in plaster to get a mold of my head to work off of. Luckily @proppedupcosplay was kind enough to help me. It took us quite a few hours, but eventually I looked like a mummy. After that dried, we were able to free my head.
With the head mold ready, I filled it with cement to create a bust of my head. Unfotunately, this was my first time using concrete. I didn't mix it right and you can actually see how all the layers of concrete were different mixtures. Luckily the head worked well enough to finish this sculpt but it does after opening the final mold so I'll have to do it again someday.
The next part was the clay sculpt. This took a while to get right, but I'm happy with the result. There are things I would fix if I did it again but overall I'm happy. That clay sculpting class really came in handy. When making the mold this time, I actually learned what a good cement mixture was and the mold was a lot better. .
Finally, I cleaned the mold and ran it in Latex. The first run had a few rough patches but the second one is already looking better. Can't wait to paint it tonight! I'm really excited to be trying it on. Hopefully application goes well! .
Tune in at 5pm EST for a live stream with @caketastrophe_cosplay and I as we paint our faces and I apply this piece!
