Nearly five years ago I summited Kilimanjaro and as you can tell from this picture I was grossly unprepared. Wearing a Zara jacket, forgetting food for summit night and being cocky about my physical capabilities, I shouldn't have made it to the top and back down. I learned a lot in those five days, but the things that stuck with me most were the humility and respect for big mountains.
Although I felt strongly about never climbing a big mountain again, a couple of days later I started missing being on Kilimanjaro. There's just something about the unforgiving conditions, comradery and the endless list of challenges that big mountains throw at you, that caught my interest. I decided then and there that my next mountain would be Aconcagua, a staggering 1067m/3500 feet higher than Kilimanjaro. Today I fly off to Mendoza in Argentina to face the biggest physical and mental challenge of my life and I honestly can't wait to start. Unlike Kilimanjaro, I come fully prepared. The anticipation is killing me, I am ready to throw on my pack and start ascending.
As I will be offline for most of the next three weeks..
