Setting the stage to engage doesn’t always have to be an extreme makeover. Sometimes, just one variable can get kids excited about a lesson.
Tomorrow we will be reading the chapter from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where Charlie receives a candy bar for his birthday. Charlie only takes one little bite of his chocolate each day, so it lasts longer. Therefore, students will be taking a little nibble each day before we read a few chapters.
If you saw my story, you saw that this was inspired by a teacher I taught with a few years ago. I loved the idea so much, that it’s stayed with me all these years. I’m hoping that this experience will make that kind of lifelong impression with my students. After all, creating memories while educating students and providing them with experiences that make them want to show up each day is what it’s all about. Am I right?
