Before first light this morning, another boat team of six AFD members were deployed from College Station as part of Texas Task Force 1. They are headed to the Houston area to aid the crews who are already there with search and rescue efforts from #Harvey. That brings the total number of folks from AFD who are currently serving in that region to 24. We anticipate they will all be gone for several more days, if not longer. Late last night, we got an update from our boat squad and helicopter rescue personnel who already have boots on the ground: Those who are serving on the boat squad assisted in the evacuation of more than 1,000 people in Dickinson yesterday, working alongside the civilians who have been doing rescues of their own via personal watercraft. Our helicopter rescue personnel are in Houston and Victoria, where they are working in UH-72 Lakotas and UH-60 Black Hawks. In all, they hoisted more than 60 people to safety yesterday and they anticipate more of the same today.
Please continue to keep them and all those who have been affected by #Harvey in your thoughts and prayers. Many thanks to our personnel for their sacrifice to serve those who are in desperate need of assistance, and to their families and friends for their support of the mission. #selflesssacrifice #servicetoothers
