It's #MissionaryMonday! Today we are sharing a personal account by team member Elise Morfas, who traveled to Albania on an OCMC short-term team:
One of the most moving aspects of our trip was getting to meet the men and women who work tirelessly for the Church, many of whom have undergone major sacrifices and trials in their journey to the Orthodox faith. Seeing their zeal encouraged me to put more effort into living my life for the Church and for God. We were also able to meet many of the Bishops of Albania, a good number of whom were converts to who lead their local churches with boldness and with prayer, and developed close relationships with the people that they served, which strengthened the Orthodox throughout the country. Seeing the spot where St. Nicodemos of Berat was martyred was a very moving experience. It helped to tie together the continuity of the Orthodox Church, which has stood the test of time despite many times of persecution. Seeing this great revival of Orthodoxy, I have come back to the United States with greater zeal to serve the Orthodox Church as God calls me to do so. – Elise Morfas
