WHY SO COMPLICATED?
— A sign close to the Pidurangala Buddha warns visitors not to pose with their backs to the statue. This dog didn’t seem to care about signboards. Or Buddhas. Or even the steepness of the climb; following us all the way to the top of the 200m mountain. The Pidurangala Buddha is dated to the 9th century, and at 22.5m, one of the largest brick Buddha statues in the world. Shot for my story on Sigiriya and Pidurangala, which ran in the April 2018 issue of “Serendib” magazine.
