We are so worried with being strong. I have to be strong because my mom died. I have to be strong because my family needs me. I have to be strong because... throw all of those narratives in the trash! NOW! Because we’ve got being strong all the way wrong.

Being strong is knowing how and when to be vulnerable through your pain. This will garner your growth.

Life is crazy. Hectic. Unpredictable. Messy. There’s no avoiding it.
We do have the power though, to stop and make time in our day for self care. It might be as soon as you wake up, in the middle of the day, or before you go to bed. It might be 10mins, it might be 90mins. It might mean saying no to someone or something. It will look different for everybody.
This is something that I’m trying to be more intentional about. I have trouble “stopping” because I’m so used to being on the go all the time with kids etc... it feels weird to be at rest, and kids are demanding (thus, my “quiet time” is usually after they go to bed). If this sounds like you and stopping feels weird, allow yourself to fully embrace 10mins of quiet each day. Maybe in the shower, put on a face mask, do some yoga, or listen to some quiet music. When we’re at rest, it allows us to reconnect with ourselves, put back into perspective what’s important, see where we’ve lost sight of the bigger picture, remember those hopes and dreams, and address those hurts, issues, wounds that we can only move on from by facing head on.
You will be more available to the ones you love, and able to remain grounded in the midst of life when you make time to care for yourself.
