#Fibroscan - A new and simple method for #earlydiagnosis of #liverdisease

#Liver disease is common in India. A FibroScan is a test that can reveal any #fibrosis or fatty deposits within the liver. It is a non-invasive, quick and simple test that works using #ultrasound and gives an immediate result.

This state of the art, Fibroscan technology, for diagnosis of liver disease is now available at #SDMH, on 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month. It is useful in patients with #fattyliver in order to identify those with fibrosis who have progressive disease.

#DryNeedling is a technique #physicaltherapists use for the treatment of #pain muscular tension and #spasm. The technique uses a “dry” needle, one without medication or injection, inserted through the skin into areas of the muscle.

Other terms commonly used to describe dry needling, include trigger point dry needling, and intramuscular manual therapy.
Dry needling, also known as trigger point dry needling (#TDN) involves a thin filament needle that penetrates the skin and stimulates underlying myofascial trigger points and muscular and connective tissues. The needle allows a physical therapist to target tissues that are not manually palpable.

A healthy muscle feels very little discomfort with insertion of this needle but results in #painrelief and restoration of #healthy #physiology.

An #intramuscular #injection is a technique used to deliver a #medication deep into the #muscles. This allows the medication to be absorbed into the #bloodstream quickly. Intramuscular injections are a common practice in modern #medicine. They’re used to deliver #drugs and #vaccines.

Intramuscular injections may be used instead of #intravenous injections because some drugs are irritating to #veins, or because a suitable vein can’t be located. It may be used instead of oral delivery because some drugs are destroyed by the #digestive system when a drug is swallowed.

Intramuscular injections are absorbed faster than subcutaneous injections. This is because muscle tissue has a greater blood supply than the tissue just under the skin. Muscle tissue can also hold a larger volume of medication than subcutaneous tissue.

Intramuscular injections are often given in the following areas:
1. Deltoid muscle of the arm
2. Vastus lateralis muscle of the thigh
3. Dorsogluteal muscles of the buttocks

ROLE OF LAMINAR AIR-FLOW IN CONTROLLING OPERATING ROOM INFECTION

Surgical site infections (#SSIs) are defined as infections occurring within 30 days after surgical operation or within one year if an implant is left in place and affecting either the incision or deep tissue at the operation site. SSIs are reported as the major cause of high morbidity and mortality among #postoperative patients.
Micro-organisms in the air particles settle on the wound, dressings and surgical instruments and cause infections. Air quality in the operating room is maintained ventilation system. #Laminar Air-flow system is an #advancement in this context.
The laminar air-flow system is mainly used in #implant #surgeries where even a small number of #microorganisms can cause #infection. In #jointreplacement surgeries, one of the main causes of early and delayed deep #prosthetic infections during #surgery. Laminar air flow is supposed to minimize contamination by mobilizing uniform and a large volume of clean air to the surgical area and contaminants are flushed out instantly.
At #SDMH we have Laminar Air-flow OT designed to provide the highest levels of professional #expertise and #patientcare.

#BloodDonation - #Myths Vs #Facts

1. Myth: I will feel weak if I #donate #blood.
Fact: You have about 5-6 liters of blood in your body. You donate only 300-450 mls, which is made by your system within 24-36 hours. You can return to your job immediately after donating blood.
2. Myth: Giving blood hurts.
Fact: The pain experienced is no more than a #needleprick.

3. Myth: Giving blood is time-consuming.
Fact: Donation of blood takes only 30 minutes. “A little of our time means a LIFE for someone.” 4. Myth: #HIV or other infections can be contracted by donating blood.
Fact: A sterile, new needle is used for each donation and is then properly discarded. Use of sterile equipment and technique limits the chance of infection. #Sterlity is maintained

5. Myth: Taking #medication means that one cannot be a blood donor.
Fact: Depending on the medication being taken, it may halt donation for a period, though in many cases it won't prevent a donation. The person in charge or the nursing staff should be informed before donating.

6. Myth: Being a #vegetarian, means that the blood does not have enough iron and cannot be donated.
Fact: Vegetarians can donate blood. The iron needed is taken from body stores and once a balanced diet is maintained is replaced after donation. This usually normally takes a month or so.
