Dinner for the crew. Now, I understand that a lot of people will naturally want to jump on the “you’re a marine scientist, yet you eat fish??” bandwagon, so let me quickly clarify this. My mission is to have oceans healthy enough that we can continue to stay connected to, and live from them.
I think it’s entirely possible, with the right selection of species, and a reduction in waste and indirect negative influences. I also recognise the risk of becoming detached as a population. So many of us now live in cities, completely removed from a life in constant connection to our environment, and when we, en-mass lose that connection, we lose the motivation to stand up and fight for it. And I mean actually do something about it, not just make comments on social media and press the like button. Those who are still connected to our environment are usually the most active in protecting it, and yes, that means the people who still want to be able to go pick native herbs, catch food and spend time weathering the elements.
