THIS HELPS ME GAIN THE STRENGTH AND FLEXIBILITY IN MY NECK AND UPPER BACK; REALLY WORKING HARD TO HAVE MY NECK AND CHEST COMPLETELY ON THE GROUND WHILE MAINTAINING MY TOES ON THE BOX 💪🏽

HOWEVER THE MOST BENEFICIAL PART OF THIS PRACTICE FOR ME IS GETTING USED TO THE PRESSURE AND HOW TO BREATHE. WHICH IS MY WEAKNESS IN CHEST STAND 😩 I KNOW I HAVE THE FLEXIBILITY TO HAVE MY TOES ON THE GROUND (BECAUSE IVE DONE IT BEFORE) BUT IT COMES WITH THE EXPENSE OF CUTTING OFF MY AIRWAY 🙅🏻‍♀️ WHICH IS NO BUENO!

Day 20. Still not moving through the thoracic spine. But considering I started with my feet in line with the 11th brick and now they are jn line with the 8th I am happy. Only another 5.5 bricks until I can touch my head 😂😂😂

Continue to work on my scorpion pose. A little by little my toe is reaching nearer to my head😬😬😬 Yesterday’s “cuisine” were all gentle animals to recharge the body. Today is back to lethal weapon- scorpion! No fret this scorpion will not bite for it will only pose sharply n one day u will see the toes touching the crown 👑 💕💕💕

You can do anything, but you can’t do everything. As one pose progresses, maybe another pose takes a back seat. Less time, practice and faded muscle memory decreases the spaces that were once closed. Omg i never thought i could go into this pose! Backbends are real nightmares for me since i had back problems after i carried my son in my arms (and my belly as well). I even got stuck in 90 degrees like a granny for few days... This pic looks like victory to me and i begin to think about working on heart openings a little bit more. Seems like everything is possible right?

A portion of my morning practice. I’m working on my forearm stand and my goal is to be able to do scorpion someday. Believe it or not, a week ago I couldn’t even kick up without smashing my face on the floor 😂 Also, I always bowed my hips forward that my lower back really hurt. For a week I did what my teacher taught me plus I watched a video of @patrickbeach on YouTube, which has been really handy (here’s a link to the video https://youtu.be/y3IIBvVUQZk). Now what I need to do is try to lift my body even more. That means pulling up through my whole body with my shoulders and elbows aligned. Sadly, my hips start to bow forward when I do this. I guess I need more shoulder and core strength. All of 2018, the Year of the Dog- we are dedicating our Pose of the Month to a theme with Astrology. November is related to the constellation of Scorpio and the symbol of the Scorpion!

The Scorpion is a beautiful, challenging asana in yoga, one that has many forms for which you can practice at almost any level. The mythological symbolism of this asana is to place the lowest part of the body (the feet) to rest on top of the highest part of the body (the head) which is symbolically to shrink the ego of the head! From a purely physical perspective, this asana can be an excellent way to:
• Tone your back body
• Develop upper body strength
• Open the body for backward bending
.

Tips:
• Develop the ability to externally rotate your upper arms
• To hold yourself upside down solidly, bring your hip points towards each other (mula bandha)
• Warm yourself up along the whole front chain of the body using warrior 1, lunges, supta virasana, etc
• Tone the back of the body with backbends that start from the stomach such as shalabhasana and bow pose
• Ask your Yoga Elements teacher to show you how if you have questions!
