What a sunset behind our home. We are blessed beyond measure. How did such a place come to be?
241 Years ago the Declaration of Independence was signed, it was actually decided two days earlier on the second of July.
Fifty-six. That is the number of men who signed their death warrant, Fifty-six.
Fifty-six men set into motion the single greatest undertaking in human history, fact.
Fifty-six men, lit a fire that gave the world suspension bridges, the light bulb, photographs, music records/phonograph, skyscrapers, mousetraps, airplanes, sunglasses, chocolate chip cookies, digital computers, led lighting, kevlar, the internet, GPS, the field of genetics, and many others including most modern medicine and cotton candy!
Most importantly those fifty-six men started a blazing fire in the hearts of all of humanity. That fire is Liberty, all the world wants it. That my friends is beyond measure.
Most of us know the beginning of the declaration, "When in the course of human events...." How about the end?
I leave you with the closing paragraph of the declaration. Penned and signed by fifty-six men who defied their masters and changed the world.
"And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor."
Wow, if that doesn't give you goosebumps and make your stand taller nothing will. They were not risking a job loss, embarrassment, or a cut in pay, but death for them and their families and communities. "We mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our Sacred Honor." Go look up the names of the Fifty-Six. Read their names aloud and thank whatever gods there may be that such men lived, not all perfect men by today's standards, but Men of Sacred Honor indeed. -Mick
