Chief Tony Bowden takes the helm as Fire Chief for Santa Clara County Fire Department today. Our department is fortunate for the smooth transition in leadership, and we're confident that Chief Bowden will maintain the level of excellent leadership that County Fire is known for.

This week’s #tbt compliments of @sanjosefirefighters who received a visit from retired #SCCFD Captain Ricardo Rendon. At 91 years old, Captain Rendon still carries his original fire department ID! We’re glad he was able to share some stories with the #SJFD crew and hope he stops by for a visit at one of our stations soon...

Blast from the past - San Jose Fire Fighters we’re stopped by a retired “County Cowboy” today. 91 year old retired Fire Captain Rendon ran into our crews at the store, introduced himself, and shared some stories from the 1970’s. Even flashing his vintage fire identification card. Today is his birthday! In the mid 1970’s there were several county fire stations located within the San Jose City limits including Station 2 (Alum Rock) and Station 26 (Tully Rd.). SJFD took over these stations and firefighters at the time had the choice to join SJFD or stay with County Fire.
At the time the playful nickname “Cowboy” was assigned to those County Firefighters as part of a healthy rivalry between the two organizations. Thanks again to Ricardo for saying hi! #SJFD #bayareafirefighter #californiafirefighter

Engine 83 provided smoke and CO alarm installation for one of our senior residents yesterday.
Is your CO alarm beeping? It may be an ‘end-of-life’ alarm indicating the unit needs to be replaced.
