#tbt to July 1985 when gusty winds drove the lightning-caused Lexington Fire to burn more than 13,000 acres.
Base camp was established at Vasona Park for the dozens of agencies working to control the fire, which remains one of the largest in Santa Clara County's history.

At approximately 10:30pm on Sunday night, #SCCFD crews were dispatched to the walk-in campground at Sanborn Park for a camper who had fallen 50 feet down a cliff.
With limited access to the area, rescue crews worked closely with @sccosheriff and @santaclaracountyparks to reach and stabilize the patient, and safely raise them back to the top of the cliff. The patient was then transported to the hospital by County Ambulance.
Although every call is different, this was a great example of the types of challenges our crews face, and the excellent partnerships between our Santa Clara County agencies.

Yesterday #SCCFD and @calfire responded to reports of two lightning strike fires on the Loma Prieta ridge.
The fires were in two remote portions of the ridge, requiring our crews to cut through almost a mile of dense brush to make access.
Through the combined efforts of both agencies and excellent efforts of our crews on the ground, the fires were prevented from becoming a danger to the area.

Although the Bay Area has returned to temperatures more typical for the season, #SCCFD still has #mutualaid resources committed to 5 major fires throughout the state.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of former #SCCFD Arson Canine, Rosie.
Rosie served for 8.5 years as a Flammable Liquid Detection Canine, searching over 1250 fire scenes in and around Santa Clara County, leading to at least 34 convictions. Rosie also served as part of the ATF National Response Team, responding to 9 career callouts.
After her retirement in May, 2012, Rosie enjoyed an active and comfortable retirement with her partner and Chief Arson Investigator (Ret.), Dennis Johnsen.
Rosie was a beloved part of our Santa Clara County Fire family and will be missed by all. #2K9

In addition to strike teams of fire engines, #SCCFD deploys individual resources as requested through the CA #mutualaid system. These individuals fill positions in Incident Management Teams, as technical specialists and more.
Firefighter Dan Nunez is one of four individual resources currently deployed, and is working as a Fireline Paramedic on the #EclipseComplex in Klamath and Six Rivers National Forests.
After days of shifts in triple digit heat and accommodations limited to tent camping at base, we're glad to see Firefighter Nunez still smiling!

#SCCFD Strike Team 2310C continues to work 12-hour fire line shifts on the #PierFire, which has grown to over 10,000 acres.
Despite the numerous resources deployed via the CA mutual aid system, we maintain full staffing and capabilities for our Santa Clara County communities.

Did you know, this year marks Santa Clara County Fire Department's 70th year?
#tbt to April 1975, when Central Fire Protection District moved its headquarters office from Tully Station to a new building at 3071 Driftwood Drive in San Jose.
The Department has since grown into much larger accommodations on Winchester Blvd. in Los Gatos.

Upon arrival at the #PierFire yesterday, Strike Team CNT 2310C was assigned a night shift on the fire line. After some rest in camp today, they will again be assigned through the night.
