WHATS THAT COMING OVER THE HILL?! | Oh.. it's just me.. I'm still alive. πŸ˜‚ Life has been tough since getting back from hols, I was thrown straight into my new commute and it's been difficult to get used to the change.
I'm now waking at 5AM and out of the house by 6:15 for a 30min walk to he station, an hour's train journey.. and by the time I get home.. the last thing I'm thinking about is any sort of exercise.. not to mention the fact that it's dark in the morning and at night.

It's been almost 2 weeks since I've run.. so whilst I finally had time.. I went out for a run in our new area.. and boy is it hilly. A mix of down hill on the way out and up on the way back(see second photo, the actual figures are off but you get the gist). Hopefully... When my foldup bike finally arrives(don't friggin ask) it should shorten my commute by alot.. so hopefully I will be back to running regularly.. though I'm not sure whether I'll have any decent running shots when it's always dark πŸ˜‚

Marathon training run number 2!

3 easy miles. I went out with the goal of staying under MAF or IMHR. Mine is 145. I managed to stay at exactly 145 and boy was it a struggle. The run wasn't hard at all, but keeping my heart rate low was a battle.

The majority of my IM training runs were done at 135 or lower and usually at a faster pace than the 11:32 I had to run today. Humbling and to be expected, considering I've probably run less than 50 miles over the past two months! πŸ˜‚ Hopefully it comes back quickly.

The last portion of @ironmantri Bolton involves running 42.20km/26.2 miles (aka a marathon).

By now you probably know I can run. I'm pretty good at running long distances. Even when my race times weren't what I wanted (like @manchesterhalfmarathon_ ), more often than not I still enjoy myself. People often ask me what I'm thinking when I do these long distance runs. And the truth? Sometimes I do maths in my head🀣🀣 , sometimes I make up stories in my head, sometimes I think about food.

Of the three triathlon disciplines, at this point, running is the easiest for me. But in the context of Ironman, after swimming 3.86km and cycling 112miles, how will my legs cope with a marathon distance run? How will I mentally cope with the pain? Only time will tell.

An @ironmantri is impossible.....until it is possible.
Biking is filled with lots of ups and downs for me! It is definitely the most challenging discipline in triathlon for me! At times, I worried it would hold me back from my dream of becoming an Ironman. But I faced my challenges head on until I made my dream come true!

#waybackwednesday Ok, maybe not way back. Just back to last Friday in Vancouver. This is a saltwater pool in Kitsilano beach and it's 137 meters long. That's right 137 meters!!! I did a Pilates session, then a special Pilates session for neck and shoulders because I've been in agony lately. My neck has been killing. But I think it really helped.

CYCLING πŸš΄πŸ»β€β™€οΈ The second section of @ironmantri Bolton is 112miles/180.25km of cycling. To top it off, if you've been to Bolton, you'll be familIar with its hills.

I've been to Bolton many times (what Asian person hasn't?πŸ™„πŸ˜„). Only recently, when I was there for a wedding did I actually notice the hills. Blimey, they're going to be fun.

Hopefully some sessions at @athletelabuk during IM training will help and also getting in a lot of time on the saddle. The last time I regularly rode a bike - a beautiful red Raleigh- was when I was younger.
112 miles on the saddle is a LONG time and after a recent 3 hour bike session, I've learnt the hard way about needing padded cycling leggings/shorts #sorebutt. What's your favourite budget cycling clothes brands? I need some! Also, I'm going to join a tri club - so hit me up with London tri clubs that are well and truly beginner friendly. Havering Tri is on my watch list so far.

SWIMMING πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ

@ironmantri begins with a 2.4mile/3.86 km swim. At this point in time, it's my weakest of the three (swim/bike/run).
.
When I was younger, I was a brilliant swimmer but a bullying incident where I was pushed into the pool, nearly drowning, left me with a phobia of deep water. When I learnt what periods were, I'd regularly claim I was on my period so I could miss the class. .
I've tried to get over this phobia a few times but never properly. This is partly why I'm doing Ironman. To kick this phobia goodbye. Put me in the end lane of a pool and I'm fine. Put me in the middle lane and I get mild panic attacks.

@swimnature are taking me under their wing for the next 4 weeks to help build my confidence in the water. Yesterday was my first session with coach Sam. He was so patient! The number of times I did the complete opposite to what he told me to do....πŸ™ˆ. In the session, I first did a lap of front crawl so he could determine what my weaknesses and strengths are. From there we worked on some of the foundations. Back to basics- floating (so hard!), gliding, breathing in water and kicking from the hips NOT knees (oooopsy πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ).

Day 1 of Marathon training!

I knocked out an easy 3 miles today with my husband. I am SO happy to be back onto a regimented training plan. It's nice to have a break, but I need structure to actually get things done.

I'm looking forward to the next 18 weeks. Hoping I'll do a little better on this standalone marathon vs the Ironman marathon. πŸ˜‚

That time I was trying to finish an Ironman with my parents but Mom was too busy with @ironmanvoice πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ 🀣 I have a perfect series of pictures when we're about to finish and I start looking around like "where's Mom?!" and in every one of them you can see her hugging Mike Reilly in the background. Hey, you can't blame the woman for having her priorities in order. She waited a long time to see him and she wasn't missing her opportunity! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ spoiler alert: we waited for her 😜

Because it was against people's expectations.

I've been stopped from doing things for many of those reasons.
So now I have decided to leap into the unknown. Challenge more of those expectations. Challenge my limitations. Overcome my fears and phobias.
