Today we were forced to break our quarantine, and I am incredibly grouchy about it. We quarantine all new animals that come to us, usually in my mum’s house (hammy Grammy) but occasionally we use a separate room in our house with hamsters from sources we trust. All new hamsters get revolution, and are mostly no-contact save for care necessities like food and water. This reduces the risk of our hamsters catching anything from the newbies.
Well, today we had some maintenance which forced our three newbies out into our communal space and exposed everyone. We are lucky that these guys are from trusted sources and low-risk scenarios. I would have been more upset had we had pups. That being said, since Starbuck is on prednisolone, her immune system is compromised and I’m not a happy camper about it.
I guess we are lucky that we know these guys are healthy... but we’ve had scenarios in the past where our diligent quarantining has saved us from full blown rodent mite infestation.
I guess I’ll get over myself, and move Abbi and #Luci into condos over the next few days. What’s done is done. It also means I can breed Luci to his intended lady friend sooner than I’d expected.
I’m pretty grumbly about it, but things could have been worse. I suppose you’ll see more of the newbies soon, and if @hathorhamstery doesn’t mind me introducing their new baby, you can meet him too.
