Doesn’t everyone carb-load 12 hours prior to an hourlong workout class?? This Chicken Tortilla Soup was sassier than my 10-year-old, minus the freshly sprouted armpit hair. Lord help me. 🤦🏼‍♀️ How I did it👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring


1. I sautéed 1 diced green bell pepper + 1 diced red bell pepper + 1 diced onion + 1 seeded, minced jalapeño + 6 minced garlic cloves in olive oil until softened, then tossed in the crockpot.
2. Added in 1 (15 oz) can @muirglen fire-roasted diced tomatoes + about 2-3 tbsp nutritional yeast + about 1 tbsp each of chili powder + cumin + onion powder + garlic powder + 1 tsp or so of sea salt + stirred in all together.
3. Added 4 skinless, bone-in chicken thighs on top of the veggie mixture + added enough chicken bone broth to cover the chicken - about 5-6 cups. Set to cook on high for 4 hours (you can also do low for 8 hours).
4. After the time was up, I removed the chicken + shredded it with two forks, removing the bones.
5. Ladled a couple cups of the broth + veggies into the blender with about 1/2 cup of plain cashew milk (you can use regular milk or cream or sour cream, whatever you prefer) + blended until smooth, then stirred it back in with the rest of the soup.
6. Stirred the shredded chicken back in + served topped with @sietefoods tortilla chips + diced avocado + scallion + a little @nancysyogurt probiotic sour cream. 👌🏼🤤

My 3-day @livebeaming cleanse is officially complete! 😃 Quick recap for those who missed my stories last week: I fell in love with @livebeaming on a trip to San Diego last year, particularly with their famous raw chocolate chip cookies + their out-of-this-world salads. When I decided I needed a little somethin’ to help pull me through my post-Halloween sugar binge, I went with @livebeaming because their cleanses include food as well - a soup for lunch + salad for dinner - which is crucial for me, because mama’s not designed for straight juice cleanses. Actual thoughts from what I’ve dubbed my Halloween Hangover Detox:

Day 1: *Drinks first sip of first green juice of the day* “MAN, I’m healthy!! No joke, I might just be the healthiest person in America right now. Like, I really have my head on straight.” 🤩•

Day 2: *Smells fresh Mexican food wafting over from the restaurant across the street after workout* “Why? WHY DID I DECIDE TO DO THIS??” 😭•

Day 3: *Checks out stomach extensively in mirror before showering* “I mean, if it weren’t 40 degrees outside, I’d go grocery shopping in the nude.” 😏•

Verdict: This was my favorite cleanse I’ve ever done, period. I never felt deprived (ok, maybe a little when I smelled that Mexican food on day 2...) + it did what I intended, which was help me break free from my sugar binge. 🎉•

Today was the third + final day of my @livebeaming cleanse, so as the boys all ate Chinese take-out, I chowed down on my last cleanse salad, which actually did a decent job at distracting me from the smell of egg rolls. 🤨 I may or may not have sneaked a taste of this week’s batch of mayo as I prepped some food tonight though. 😬 Pretty sure that doesn’t even count though. 💁🏼‍♀️ How I do mayo👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring


(I use the recipe from @thewholesmiths cookbook - highly recommend. @cleaneatingmessylife also has a great one + is the one who encouraged me to sack up + give it another go after a couple fails. 😃)
1. I put 1 cup extra light tasting olive oil + 1 @vitalfarms egg + 1 tsp Dijon mustard + the juice of 1/4 a lemon + a pinch of sea salt in the 2-cup measuring cup that came with my immersion blender (you can also use a wide-mouth mason jar).
2. I stick an immersion blender in until it’s touching the very bottom of the cup + start blending. You’ll feel it suction to the bottom of the cup + see the mixture start to thicken.
3. As it thickens, pull your immersion blender up slightly to blend in any oil that hasn’t fully incorporated yet until it’s one big cup o’ mayo.
4. I store in a jar in the fridge.👌🏼🤤

Yeah, I didn’t eat this today. Delicious chocolate treats are frowned upon during a cleanse. 😐 But I figured y’all wouldn’t throw a blueberry chocolate cup outta bed, sooo. 💁🏼‍♀️ How I did it back when I did it👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring


1. I melted 1/4 cup chopped no-added-sugar chocolate + 1 tbsp coconut oil + 1 tbsp cashew butter + stirred until smooth.
2. Spooned it into a couple baking cups + plopped some bluebs into each cup. Froze for about 20 min + devoured one.👌🏼🤤

Last night, as I served up dinner, our 7-year-old, Ford, asked John + me if we’ve “seen each other’s private spots.” 😶 Luckily, I was able to distract him with his favorite meal of red beans + rice before being forced to give a detailed answer. How I did it👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring


1. I sautéed 1 diced red bell pepper + 1 diced onion in olive oil in a skillet, then stirred in 4 sliced chicken sausage links to brown a couple minutes. Tossed it in the crockpot.
2. To the crockpot, I added 1 large zucchini + about half a head of cauliflower that I riced in the food processor (pulsed until it became a rice consistency) + a 1-lb bag of rinsed, dried kidney beans + 2 or 3 tbsp nutritional yeast + about 1 tbsp each of turmeric + onion powder + garlic powder + chili powder + smoked paprika + cumin + a couple good pinches of sea salt + 6 cups low-sodium chicken broth, stirred it all together + cooked on high for 4-5 hours. You can also do low for 8 hours.
3. Served the boys’ over regular rice (I love the bags of plain, frozen rice from @wholefoods - makes it SO easy!!) + mine over sweet potato rice, so I just riced a small Japanese sweet potato in the food processor + sautéed it a few minutes in olive oil in a skillet, seasoned with a little sea salt + topped with beans + chopped scallion. Soooo goooood!!👌🏼🤤

I was throwing a pity party for myself all day, what with my currently raging sugar addiction + the fact that Instagram’s really been chapping my a** lately, so I made a last-minute executive decision, dropped everything + high-tailed it on over to the movie theater to take in an impromptu matinee of the new Queen movie. Best decision ever. 😎 I left with a major attitude adjustment + a pep in my step that would make Freddie Mercury himself proud. Ready to start tomorrow with a bang + toss alllll the Halloween candy in the house. Most likely as We Are the Champions plays in the background. And speaking of champions, last night’s Sloppy Joes will most definitely rock you. How I did ‘em👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring


1. In a skillet, I sautéed a diced onion + a diced green pepper in olive oil, then added in 2 lbs ground beef, cooking until browned.
2. Tossed it all in the crockpot, along with a 15 oz can of @muirglen fire-roasted crushed tomatoes + about 1/4 cup (no crap added) ketchup + 2 tbsp coconut sugar + 1 tbsp chili powder + 2 tbsp yellow mustard + 1 tbsp Worcestershire + 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar + a couple good pinches of sea salt + 2 tbsp tomato paste (I keep a tube of tomato paste in the fridge - that way I can just use what I need + put the rest away for another day, rather than wasting most of a can.). If you want, you can also stir in some finely chopped carrot + riced cauliflower for a little extra nutrition. 😃
3. Cooked for 4 hours on high.
4. Served the boys’ Sloppy Joes on buns + mine on bell pepper buns topped with avo slices.👌🏼🤤

Putting the final touches on the chapter about wellbeing, so I was all about whipping up a satisfying comfort soup for lunch - silky, crunchy, salty, sweet...mmm! 💜

Two years ago on Election Day, I was explaining how the process works to the boys. When I was finished, my then-4-year-old Luke excitedly proclaimed “I wanna watch! I’ve never seen an erection! 😃” So From Luker et al, we just wanna say Happy Erection Day, America! 🇺🇸 #savoringtheflavoring

Uncool: your husband leaving your child’s inside-out, dog-poop-caked jeans on the garage-floor for you to take care of when you return home from your business trip. 🤨 Extremely cool: being that mom who always has juicy maple roasted turkey in the fridge. 😎 This is one of my absolute favorite things to keep on hand for school lunches, quick salads + rushed weeknight dinners. My biggest trick to keep it nice + moist (🙊): After slicing, return the cooked turkey to its baking pan to soak up all the drippings. 🤤 Trust me, do it. How I did it👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring


(From the True Roots cookbook)
1. I seasoned 2 turkey tenderloins on both sides with @beautifulbrinysea French Picnic sea salt, then browned a couple min per side in a couple tbsp olive oil in a skillet.
2. Placed in a glass baking dish drizzled with olive oil + sprinkled smoked paprika on both sides, turning to coat. Baked at 400 for 5 min.
3. Drizzled a little maple syrup over each tenderloin, then sprinkled dried thyme on them + baked another 12 - 14 min, until cooked through.
4. I let it rest for about 10 min, then thinly slice, stir a tbsp or so of @vitalfarms butter into the warm juices left in the baking dish + return the sliced turkey to the baking dish to soak up allllll those juices.
5. I cover + store in the fridge to use throughout the week for quick lunches, dinners, salads, etc.👌🏼🤤

Three things I’ve learned on this work trip to Denver:
1️⃣ Assuming my usual airplane-bathroom pee-hover stance one-day post-leg-workout is an ill-advised plan. 🙅🏼‍♀️
2️⃣ Wearing natural deodorant to an event where you’ll be speaking to a roomful of strangers is useless. Gotta go with the big guns. 💪🏼
3️⃣ Fried green tomatoes in Eggs Benny is 👌🏼. #savoringtheflavoring

Halloween is no joke to a kid. And like any good addict, my 10-year-old, Jack, spent all afternoon meticulously sorting his stash, separating each + every piece + grouping them neatly into categories. The chocolate section, the chewy section, the king-sized section. But my personal fave? The collection of lollipops in the aptly named “sucking section.” One thing you’ll never find in the sucking section: this loaded salad. How I did it👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring


1. I tossed some quartered Brussels Sprouts with olive oil + nutritional yeast + turmeric + sea salt + garlic powder + onion powder + roasted at 425 for 30ish min.
2. Tossed some chopped romaine with olive oil + a squeeze of fresh lemon juice + a pinch of @beautifulbrinysea French Picnic sea salt, then topped with 7-min boiled eggs + olives + chopped avocado + blue cheese + the Brussels + served.👌🏼🤤

I got into a convo with my 6-year-old, Luke, today where we somehow landed on the topic of breastfeeding. After I’d explained all the ins + outs of this beautiful mother + child bonding experience, Luke gazed into my eyes + cooed “I wish I was a baby.” When I asked why, he responded “So I could suck on your bewbs.” 😐 In lieu of breastfeeding a 6-year-old, I gave him this plate of air-fryer fries with homemade honey mustard to suckle on. He was totally cool with the substitution. How I did it👇🏼 #savoringtheflavoring


1. Fries: I tossed a large russet potato sliced into fries with a drizzle of olive oil + a good pinch of sea salt + a few shakes each of nutritional yeast + garlic powder + onion powder + cumin + a shake of smoked paprika. Cooked in the air fryer at 400 for 16 minutes, tossing halfway through. (You can also bake in the oven at 425 for about 30 min, tossing halfway through.)
2. Honey mustard dip: I mixed equal parts homemade mayo + Dijon mustard (about 2 tbsp each) then stirred in about 1 tbsp raw honey + a pinch of sea salt until smooth. Dipped the fries in it. (This makes about 2-3x what you’ll need for this batch of fries.)👌🏼🤤

Tell me I’m not the only one who uses movie quotes in daily conversation. Like today when I took one look at this browned butter + cinnamon apple yogurt bowl + thought “I just went from six to midnight.” 🤤 Because there isn’t much that can’t be answered with a Forgetting Sarah Marshall quote.
