This is is me at about 3am in a Waffle House bathroom, half way through an overnight shoot for @brit.wig a few years ago. Earlier in the evening we were shooting at a hotel, and while loading the elevator I got a glimpse of someone familiar in the lobby. After a double take I realized it was @reedmorano. I had just seen Meadowland a few weeks earlier at #SAVFF and heard Reed and Olivia talk about their experience shooting it. I specifically remember Reed talked about how natural it felt to handheld operate a camera, like you were dancing with the actors. Up until then, I was definitely interested in camerawork, but seeing and hearing her on that stage gave me the validation I needed to start telling other people (and myself) I was going to be a cinematographer.
After the shoot, I was lucky enough to run into her again at the hotel and, although I was sleep deprived and nervous as hell, I think I managed to get a few words out. Thank you Reed for being my OG role model. Visibility does matter. And that’s why #FemaleFilmmakerFriday is so important. Proud to know many awesome ladies out there that are changing the game 💯💯
