Ahimsa is the radicalism of our time.
Ahimsa is the Sanskrit word for “do no harm”. It is one of the eight yogic ways and the practice of ahimsa has been on my mind quite a lot lately. When we try to walk this planet 🌏 without causing other people harm, we are bound to run into problems. It’s simply impossible to do so. Our mere existence produces CO2, which is already harmful for the planet, and that’s just from breathing! But does it derive from that thought, that we needn’t take care of our actions towards others? That we are not morally obliged to cause as less harm as possible? I believe not. Practicing Ahimsa is a beautiful way to become more and more aware of our daily actions and consciously choosing alternatives that are less harmful than others (taking the train, instead of a car / eating plant based instead of animal products / reducing waste by buying less and recycling more / treating others with respect and loving kindness instead of insisting on “our way” etc.) Our ego wants us to believe that we are “super special” and therefore we are “allowed” to shop at Zara and to buy cheap animal products, all the while harming people, animals and our planet tremendously. It’s so easy for our mind to say “let others save the planet/do the social work” all the time forgetting that in every single one of us lies a pure soul that is so connected to the source, which is hurting every time we hurt ourselves and others. This soul cannot really thrive, of we are not acting in a loving way towards ourselves, others and the planet. So I ask you to try it. Go one day without hurting yourself, others and the planet. Make time for self care, be of service to others, eat organic and plant based and realize how the conscious practice of Ahimsa is so much more beautiful and precious than anything you can buy. ———————— Up there is one of the beautiful flower mandalas made by my friend Christo every morning here at the Gayatri Mandir in Corfu. 🙏🏼 I tagged a few people in this, because they were super helpful on this journey to walk this planet doing less harm. Feel free to check them out!
