As a Father and as a Coach, I already have countless moments of being super proud from the accomplishments of Ariana and my other athletes. But last Sunday, I felt i could never be prouder to see my 9 year old Lexi racing for the first time against adults, in a race that was super difficult, The Filinvest Endurance Weekend 6 hour race, made more harder due to the rains and mud. I had one of the greatest scare of my life when Lexi crashed on her 2nd lap. She had to be taken to the ambulance due to a suspected broken left shoulder. Fortunately it was not broken but was just bruised. We went back to the starting line for her to rest already and end her race. But what surprised me was when she told me that she wanted to finish the race. At that moment I knew I have another Champion for the future. She had the determination like her Ate Ariana. I agreed to her request, knowing that she can really finish the super tough race because we really trained for it. And finish she did! With 7 laps of the very muddy course. I cried deep inside but I did not show it. A coach has to be tough no matter what but the Father in me was in the most proudest moment that could be possible for a father. I felt it was okay to cry.
