@alc_man SS2018 Collection recalls much of the philosophy and design principles of the #Bauhaus Movement of the post-WWII era. Bauhaus came about as a response to the failed ideology of Europe that ultimately led to the emergence of the likes of #Hitler. The Nazis, the hordes of human dead and the collapse of the moral 'superiority' of the European Ideal dealt such a potent blow to the Continental ego that the presumed goodness and nobility of the European was shaken to the core. Bauhaus was, fundamentally, the German attempt to answer the question "What does is mean to be human; and how can we achieve that?" Designer, @amandalairdcherry, has continued to take a page from the Bauhaus tome to explore the very same question in the South African context. She does not take lightly the idiom "Clothes maketh the man." Nay, exactly in the philosophical vein of the Bauhaus Movement, she proposes that a [man's] environment can be engineered to produce what #Nietzsche may have very likely had in mind in his concept of the #Übermensch - the Hyperhuman. And not unlike Nietzsche, she presents a deconstruction of the Old Self and, like a nomad, take pilgrim. This calls for a simplicity of life conducive to genuine contemplation. Considering where the male sex is today, Ms. Cherry's call to pilgrim is not only a good idea, it's a necessary one to boot.
