It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that 1983 NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series, and 1984 NASCAR Busch Grand National Series, Now the NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Sam Ard has passed away from Complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Sam was in my opinion one of the two greatest Xfinity series drivers of all time, along with Jack Ingram. In just 3 years and 92 races, he won 22 times, and only failed to finish in the top 10 thirteen times. He only had 4 races where he finished that were out of the top 10. In 1984, he had to retire after severe crash at the North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham, but he had enough points to be the 1984 champion. He became an owner after retiring, and had great drivers drive his cars, including Jimmy Hensley, Ed Berrier, and Jay Fogelman. In more than the last decade of his life, he battled hard against his greatest competitors, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Dieseases. He never gave up, until his death in his sleep. He was 78 years old.
Sam Ard, Born February 14th, 1939, died April 1st, 2017. The entire Caution Light News Team sends our thoughts and prayers to the Ard Family.
Race in Paradise Sam.
