Organic granola-to-be: Soaked and fermented organic rolled oats, Organic maple syrup, organic peanut butter, organic wild blueberries, dehydrating in my Excalibur dehydrator on the "living foods" setting. This can be eaten on the go, or as a breakfast cereal, hot or cold with raw milk. If you want to maintain the probiotic quality, eat it without further cooking, but if you are all about the fermented foods and raw doesn't matter, enjoy it hot. Because it's fermented, it's easier to digest, won't make you tired nor will it slow you down at all, cooked further or not. What could be better than starting your day with a delicious probiotic breakfast or a pick me up for added energy at the gym or on the trail?

Always continuing my education.

I've watched tons of documentaries regarding plant based diets, I've even read some of the China Study and I realize that my body/blood type functions better with less meat (not none, less). •
But one thing I've always been adamant about it consuming healthy fats. I use a lot of Avocado and pure cold pressed Olive oils and some coconut (which doesn't like me and gives me an itchy throat and an uneasy tummy). But one thing I find my body continually craving is clean, healthy animal based saturated fats which seem to be pretty essential for brain function and growing kiddos.

Making my own Ghee, rendering animal tallow and consuming pastured eggs has been a regular part of my weekly lifestyle. I don't plan on changing that. •
A friend of mine and I were recently discussing diet labels and how they are just full of shit. •
We should be eating in the way that makes us feel the best, not in a way that fits us into a mold for food/diet label popularity.

Everyone will tell you what's healthy. Everyone will tell you what's best. But you know what...only you know what makes YOU feel best, only you...not a medical doctor, not your mother in law, not even a holistic health minded mama on IG, like me. Just you. •
Being aware of what makes you feel good is important to the success of your health and your quality of life. So please don't let those super vegans, those powerful paleos, those juicing Jill's and those crazy keto's make you feel inferior because you like to veer off your path a little and experiment with healthy balance. •

The Heal Your Gut Cookbook makes GAPS and SCD simple and approachable, and of course Sally Fallon’s famous Nourishing Traditions is one of the most balanced and useful resources I’ve found for maintaining health if you don’t need to be on a healing diet or for once you no longer are dealing with GI issues.

I think that if everyone followed the Nourishing Traditions way from childhood, we would have much less need for healing diets like GAPS, SCD, Low FODMAP, and AIP

Bone broth is all the rage these days. It can be a good source of minerals for certain people. Just as is true of all health remedies - it's not necessarily for everyone. "What is one person's medicine, can be another person's poison." If you I think it might be right for you, you can buy pre-packaged bone broth in the freezer section at Whole Foods. The brand is called Bonafide. Or you can make your own, it's quite a bit of effort, but homemade is usually better than store-bought. I make mine from a recipe in Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. This is an excellent, ultra healthy cookbook, filled with nutrition tidbits throughout, and whole sections on topics like Superfoods, Minerals, Feeding babies, etc.

This was a delicious recipe from Sally Fallon’s Politically incorrect cook book .
The best part of this meatball recipe was the combination of beef and lamb + the bread crumbs I blended up from paleo bread and soaked in coconut cream ( slight detour from the original recipe which used cream )
Coupled with a lovely glass or 2 of Spanish red wine ! Best wine in the world ! Our favorite ! 🍷

People need #support. Women need support. Mothers need support. This is why humanity does thrive within a close-knit community. (Too bad that we sort of lack that nowadays, but that’s a conversation for another day!) I find a sense of #community and support in reading. In the world we live in, there is so much access to information. Isn’t it amazing? Our parents didn’t have this early on, our grandparents didn’t have this - not like we have it #today. These #books are valuable resources. I believe that everyone should have access to “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon. If you are an #herbalist or are curious about the #wisewomantradition “Healing Wise” by Susun Weed is incredible. If you are a woman wanting to become pregnant, are pregnant, have a daughter who is pregnant, etc., “The Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year” by Susun Weed is phenomenal, and it was tucked under my arm practically throughout my entire #pregnancy. It was a great resource to have, especially when being pregnant and wanting some grandmotherly, traditional herbal advice and #wisdom. “The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding,” by the La Leche League is a classic. This corner of the house is my little slice of #heaven and is my favorite #meditation spot. It is the warmest place and just gets the best sun. Plus, I can look outside and it feels like I’m in a #forest. I stitched that pillow together with my grandmother when I was a little girl. Lots of memories, toting that pillow around. Wherever it is, I feel like my grandmother is right next to me (she’s not dead, haha, just lives far away). I love being around elders, sages, grandmothers, grandfathers. As I grow older, the need for community sets in. We are not machines, we are living beings and thrive with connection. I #dream a lot of living in communities like we once (historically and culturally) did. Again, close-knit, loving and working together for each other. In the meantime, I have my books. My family. And Instagram. 😉❤️ .

I have my fermented lemonade with a hint of grated nutmeg and orangina going! Healthy drinks we can all enjoy! The boys love them! In a few days we will begin enjoying these and start more batches. I’m going to try a raspberry orange one next and need to bottle my Kombucha! Do you like fermented foods or drinks? If so what do you like? I am trying to get into kimchi and sauerkraut and I do prefer the red cabbage over the green but it’s still taking a while to get used to it, I’m glad a little goes a long ways. I do love fermented fruits, especially blueberries.
