A new exhibit at the Museum of Anthropology has brought together one of the world's largest collections of Salish blankets. •
The showcase is called The Fabric of our Land: Salish Weaving, and features dozens of intricately designed blankets, some contemporary and others nearly 200 years old.

Musqueam First Nation weaver Debra Sparrow said the significance of these blankets coming back to Salish territory is heightened because the skill of textile weaving was lost by the Musquem community for two generations, before she and a small group took up the craft.

"When we're standing at our loom, we're not just making a blanket, we're making history. We're connecting with our people, and we're reflecting all the ways in which they existed."

This song was shared as you were being lifted closer towards our creator and handed over to our ancestors. Hundreds of people gathered in that house and even as you left us you shared your gifts. You helped me find my voice and I will forever be thankful for all that you have done for us. You have definitely created a love that we look up to. I raise my hands up to you. #coast #salish #song #fly #eagle #fly

Yesterday, I had the privilege of hanging out with the wild-land firefighters of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Nation's Division of Fire as the worked on a prescribed burn. The burns, which had been utilized by tribal nations long before European settlers arrived, are put in place using a quilt technique that serves as a barrier to prevent more intense forest fires from spreading. @xthedivide will be reporting on tribal fire management, its history and its application in the future. #montana #salish #flathead #firefighter

The Sea to Sky Gondola is located in Stawamus Chief Provincial Park, British Columbia. Established in 1997, the park is over 5 square kilometres in area and notably encompasses the Stawamus Chief (Siám' Smánit) and Stawamus Squaw, a slightly smaller granitic dome to the north-east. This was renamed Slhanay in 2009 due to the derogatory implications of the word "Squaw". •
